Beerdedone (1873), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 17, 2007 On draft at capones Pours a copper color with a small off - white head. Aroma of pineyhops, citrus, and some grapefruit. Flavor is toasted malt, hops and a hint of grapefruit. A decent double ipa drewbeerme (2224), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 15, 2007 bottle, pours pale amber with soapy off white head. a faintly hoppy nose. not a very hoppy or bitter iipa but decent. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Apr 14, 2007 Medium orange amber, decent head. Aroma a blend of caramel malts and grapefruit. Flavor matches, definitely all on the big side. Although this wasn’t particularly exciting for an IIPA, there wasn’t anything wrong here either, and the malts and the hops balanced each other well. Nice. bgburdman9 (822), Columbus, Ohio, USA Apr 10, 2007 Poured a cloudy light brown color with a pretty big white head. Aroma was of some citrus and just smelled kind of stale and medicinal. Flavor had some hoppiness to it but not a lot of bitterness. The whole thing was a little off and not a IIPA I would ever buy again when I can go out and get a hopslam or hopsickle any day of the week. I tried to rate this higher but when thinking about how much better IIPA’s can be I couldnt do it. JPDIPSO (4863), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Apr 10, 2007 First impressions first, WOW who sprayed the disinfectant in the outhouse and bottled it. Overpowering pine and rotting grains. Some melon, and citrus come out as it sets, but I still have reminders of the outhouse in the pine forest at the cabin. Hazed light amber color with a canvas colored head. Very smooth and pleasant feel. Mild orange liqueur mixes nicely with pale, slightly earthy malt. Finish and linger have a mild burn some more candy orange flavors. To be blunt, if this didn’t stink, I would really be enjoying this one. Some of the scents have subsided, but some of the nuances are still there and I think about a morning after and an overzealous use of room freshener. Flavors are balanced better than most IIPAs with a nice mix of malt, hops, fruit and light spice. CharlesDarwin (1822), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Apr 9, 2007 22 Oz Bottle. Aroma flows forth with hops in mountain floral and desert plant musk. Soapy and with resin and bits of caramel. Somewhat laid down. Deep amber and orange pour, with a rising rocky foam of many fingers a tannic ivory. Flavor carries a strong sweet malt and some light hop flavor, but not much else. It’s like a Double IPA with the volume turned down low and hard to hear. I can see what’s trying to happen, but the hoppiness doesn’t show through. There’s residual sweetness in tangerine and malt sugar, then a wisp of non-descript citrus and pine, but not nearly strong enough for a double IPA. Pleasent and clean, with only minimal bubblegum yeast esters in the background, with heat not present. Just not enough bitterness nor hop flavor for this to be an IIPA. Not knowning, I would have called this an APA or a weak IPA. Eek. Looks like the hops went to head retention. Finishes dry and soapy. Thanks Shaun! harmfuldrunk (288), New Jersey, USA Mar 31, 2007 smells like ass malt tastes like lemongrass and period blood decent hops, drinkable i like ass and period blood in a creamy sick way this brew is cool strange hopped and strange i like like sex in the mouth just not very much with this one marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA Mar 28, 2007 Lemon citrus hops aroma, slightly opaque with an amber color. Flavor is malty with hops bitterness. Little citrus qualities, stronger malt presence. Creamy palate with a short duration. Flavor strengthens and mellows as you drink more. Very smooth and malty with an even hops kick. Very drinkable.
