pforei (338), USA Mar 26, 2007 Updated: Apr 21, 2007Bottle. Tulip glass. Copper colr with decent head. Hoppy/pine/grapefruit aroma with some fruit and ear wax/resin. There is some spice and a slight touch of caramel malt. Dry hoppy finnish with some alsohol. Overall the taste doen’t work for me though. I thought I had this last Saturday on tap at Hop Devil and thought that it was much better, but maybe I got confused. millysdaddy (67), Alexandria, Virginia, USA Mar 26, 2007 22 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy, orange-amber with an off-white head. Floral and piney hop aromas as well as caramel and dried fruit. Big malty flavors of caramel, vanilla and nuts balanced by citrus and pine hops. As IIPAs go, this one tends towards the maltier side but very good overall. WISEGUY572 (1244), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 24, 2007 A good solid beer. Nose of malts and floral hops. Wonderful crystal clear dark amber to copper body, small off white head that vanishes too quickly. Average to thin, dry and nutty mouth feel. Solid sweet malts, classic British hops, but then a surprising American pine and orange hoppy bitter finish. A good beer, and the combination of hops is interesting. bombshelter (349), Washington, Washington DC, USA Mar 22, 2007 22oz bottle from WF. pours a cloudy dark amber, laced tan head. aroma is a hint of sweet malt, overridden by a wealth of herbal, grassy hops. medium/full body. flavor is too much sweetness up front but mellows in the middle and gets over-pined in the end. at this point, it’s nit-picky, but this is not quite as good as my favorite double IPAs (pliny, bend, even the green flash). that said, it’s still a pretty good beer, just not great. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Mar 22, 2007 Darker amber, moderate head, decent lacing and retention. Aroma is that overripe fruity hop that I can’t stand with more fruits, caramel, grapefruit, pine, etc. Medium bodied with well rounded flavors and bitterness, but I hate that one hop they use. That combined with being fairly mild for the style scored lower for me. biggcb (458), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 22, 2007 Draft @ Capone’s. Pours a nice amber color, with a smallish wite head. Aroma is big on citrus with some nice pine. Flavor is also heavy on the citrus, with a little pine and a good dose of malt. Very well balanced. Slightly bitter, but not overly so. Very smooth finish - the hops seem to stick to your tongue! Cliff (355), Avon Lake, Ohio, USA Mar 21, 2007 Draft, pours a murky brownish color that is not very nice looking. Aromas of hops and malt, doesn’t seem very DIPA, seems more single IPA. Nice mouthfeel and an ok finish. Ok beer, was expecting more. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 17, 2007 On draft at Capones. Pours amber with a decent sized white head. Aroma of pine, citrus, and hops. The flavor is pine, bitter, smooth, citrus. Good brew.
