Commercial Description:
The first in our Brew Crew Big Beer Series, Arcadia Hopmouth Double IPA should be finding its way to a store near you. Huge Maris Otter malt and a generous amount of fresh hops combine to make this extremely balanced ale remarkable.

22 Oz Bottle. Aroma flows forth with hops in mountain floral and desert plant musk. Soapy and with resin and bits of caramel. Somewhat laid down. Deep amber and orange pour, with a rising rocky foam of many fingers a tannic ivory. Flavor carries a strong sweet malt and some light hop flavor, but not much else. It’s like a Double IPA with the volume turned down low and hard to hear. I can see what’s trying to happen, but the hoppiness doesn’t show through. There’s residual sweetness in tangerine and malt sugar, then a wisp of non-descript citrus and pine, but not nearly strong enough for a double IPA. Pleasent and clean, with only minimal bubblegum yeast esters in the background, with heat not present. Just not enough bitterness nor hop flavor for this to be an IIPA. Not knowning, I would have called this an APA or a weak IPA. Eek. Looks like the hops went to head retention. Finishes dry and soapy. Thanks Shaun!

Lemon citrus hops aroma, slightly opaque with an amber color. Flavor is malty with hops bitterness. Little citrus qualities, stronger malt presence. Creamy palate with a short duration. Flavor strengthens and mellows as you drink more. Very smooth and malty with an even hops kick. Very drinkable.

Bottle. Tulip glass. Copper colr with decent head. Hoppy/pine/grapefruit aroma with some fruit and ear wax/resin. There is some spice and a slight touch of caramel malt. Dry hoppy finnish with some alsohol. Overall the taste doen’t work for me though. I thought I had this last Saturday on tap at Hop Devil and thought that it was much better, but maybe I got confused.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy, orange-amber with an off-white head. Floral and piney hop aromas as well as caramel and dried fruit. Big malty flavors of caramel, vanilla and nuts balanced by citrus and pine hops. As IIPAs go, this one tends towards the maltier side but very good overall.

A good solid beer. Nose of malts and floral hops. Wonderful crystal clear dark amber to copper body, small off white head that vanishes too quickly. Average to thin, dry and nutty mouth feel. Solid sweet malts, classic British hops, but then a surprising American pine and orange hoppy bitter finish. A good beer, and the combination of hops is interesting.

22oz bottle from WF. pours a cloudy dark amber, laced tan head. aroma is a hint of sweet malt, overridden by a wealth of herbal, grassy hops. medium/full body. flavor is too much sweetness up front but mellows in the middle and gets over-pined in the end. at this point, it’s nit-picky, but this is not quite as good as my favorite double IPAs (pliny, bend, even the green flash). that said, it’s still a pretty good beer, just not great.

Darker amber, moderate head, decent lacing and retention. Aroma is that overripe fruity hop that I can’t stand with more fruits, caramel, grapefruit, pine, etc. Medium bodied with well rounded flavors and bitterness, but I hate that one hop they use. That combined with being fairly mild for the style scored lower for me.
