ford9719 (369), Vilseck, Germany Jan 21, 2007 Bottle. Thanks to Styles. Poured a cloudy reddish golden color. Aroma of paint and hops. The taste is very hoppy. jgd0608 (187), Zeeland, South Carolina, USA Jan 21, 2007 Bomber courtesy of ford9719. Thanks!! Pours a deep red witha thin beige head. I’m smellin bananas, intersting for a DIPA. Medium mouthfeel, wiht a good hop flavor. Citrusy taste. Pretty good all around DIPA. Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Jan 21, 2007 Very dark reddish amber color. Bathroom aromas for sure. A lot of urinal with a bit of citrus fruit. Tastes of scotch at first, heavy on caramel malt and alcohol. Citrusy sweet, juicy and lively. Bitterness arrives eventually but only after I’ve had a few bites of my salty blackened salmon. Oakes (8057), gone rambling, Vietnam Jan 19, 2007 Dark golden-amber colour. Aroma...dude is that dirty diaper? All right, there’s bright fruits in there too but even after letting it breathe ten minutes that shit is still prevalent. By this I cannot abide. But I guess that’s why they call it Hopmouth, as a hint to skip over the whole sniffing the beer thing. Flavour is bitter, with a sweet, refreshing orange character as well, over a backdrop of earthy, chewy malts that are thankfully low on the crystal. Clean, refreshing, balanced but that aroma just ain’t my thing. dolemike1 (1116), Jeannette, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 15, 2007 Hazy, glowing orange, big white head, rich pine aroma, intensely hoppy the first two sips, then plenty of caramel malt, with a potent citrus and pine finish. Very nice detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Jan 13, 2007 Pours a nice copper color, topped by an inch of cream colored foam. Good head retention and lacing. Hop bitterness, pine, and light malt in the aroma.
Flavor is pretty intense with big piney hops and big caramel malt. Toss in some citrus hop flavors. Toss in some toffee-like malt flavors. Delightful pine and grapefruit and alcohol in the finish and aftertaste. Just when all Double IPAs start to taste too much alike, this one comes along and stands on its own. As hoppy and bitter as it is, the malt really makes this one.
Medium to full body, gentle but substantial carbonation. nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 11, 2007 Draft. Hazy orange-honey color pour with a white head. Good lacing. This was served to me as a pint for $5... This is a decent IIPA, but there isn’t anything remarkable here. Just a standard East Coast style version. There is something, that I can’t quite put my finger on, that could make this beer better. Maybe it’s a bit more sweetness to coat the inside of the mouth to precede that hop bite. Still, not too shabby. buckybeer (666), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA Jan 9, 2007 Pours a medium hazy amber with a decent head. Nice sticky lacing also. Big piney hop aroma and a touch of floral. Flavor is once again big bitter hops. There are some mild malts as well but the hops overpower them. But not in a bad way. A true big hop pleasure.
