asteele8 (270), Mukilteo, Washington, USA Jan 9, 2007 Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a nice white head on top that is sticking to the glass. Aroma is full of hops with citrus, pine and floral coming through. Hints of caramel and malt come in at the end too. Flavor is piney hops with some sweet malt. Finishes with a nice bitterness. A decent beer but not near the top of IIPAs. tjthresh (1748), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Jan 6, 2007 22 ounce bottle. Dark amber with a big sticky white head. Sort of a funky soapy aroma. Some citrus is begining to break through as it warms. Same sort of Proctor and Gamble taste. Long bitterness with lots of bubbles. Not a real big fan of this. Indra (2023), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Jan 6, 2007 22oz. bottle. Citric and moderately juicy hop aroma, plenty of lemon and pine combined with a lighter amount of pale malt sweetness, perhaps a hint of light brown sugar. Medium-dark amber color, lightly hazy with a lasting, fine, uneven head. Flavors are actually fairly well balanced throughout but of course do lean to the fruity and hoppy side, primarily, with more lemony citrus and a touch of grapefruit combined with the lightly sweet maltiness, which actually disappears largely towards the finish, which is significantly drying and even a tad astringent. Abundant effervescence combined with an oily texture and medium-full body. Alcohol is nowhere to be seen. Enjoyable and easily drinkable, but not able to match the texture and complexity of the great IIPAs. Arayaga2 (933), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 5, 2007 Updated: Jun 4, 2007Hazy orange with fluffy white head. Aroma is of pineapple and citrus. Taste is dry and crackery with slight citrusy sweetness, and finishes with bitter hops. Not really an IIPA, but a decent product nonetheless. $6/22oz joshwilfong (769), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jan 4, 2007 on tap. nice amber brown appearance. taste is initially slightly oaky which finishes to a strong hop flavor. pretty good Aeneas (21), Port Jefferson Station, New York, USA Jan 4, 2007 22 oz bottle from Shorline Beverage. Aroma is a complex beast... hoppy with a nice floral component and pineiness and to be sure but nicely backed by a biscuit/ toffee malt character. Hints of spice, like cinnamon and nutmeg. Hazy amber in color with a firm beige head. Flavor was nicely balanced for a Double IPA. Good malt backbone and strong hop presence. Again, hints of spice were evident. Palate was rich, as would be appropiate, very nice carbonation level, high residual sugars balanced the bittering hops well.
Overall a nice beer to try, might be worth another try to see if the spice notes are a common theme or a bottle variation due to cross country shipping, but not significantly different from other DIPAs. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA Jan 3, 2007 22 oz bottle via Ogglethorp (thanks!). This one pours a hazy amber with a chunky monstrously large head. Nose is pine and grapefruit. Taste starts out hoppy and ends hoppy. Moves from a sweet orange to a bitter grapefruit and finishes with a resiny pine. High carbonation. WAY HIGH carbonation that almost ruins this beer. Subtract several points...Medium body. Good stuff that would be better if it was not over-carbonated. . LearninBeer (194), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Dec 28, 2006 The aroma is very hoppy - pine and citrus. The head is frothy/creamy, off white in color, very good lacing, the body is cloudy amber/orange. The initial flavor is a little aceitic/bitter, the finish is a good long bitter hit to the side and then the back of the tongue. The body is medium, the texture is creamy with soft carbonation.
