scraff (1920), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Dec 26, 2006 Hazy dark peach juice colored ale, thin white creamy head. Hopped up nose of candied mango and guava, touches of orange and florals, with soft underlying caramel and toffee notes. Tropical fruit and orange hop bitterness up front with hints of florals and sweet caramel rounding this off nicely. Medium bodied, medium carbonation, drying bitter finish. Good tasting brew, but not a standout... cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 22, 2006 Had this on tap at the Trivia Pub in Moon Township. Looks like any other orangy/yellow pale yellow american style beer but the aroma is hops. Swirl it around in the glass and it appears a little thicker than most beers. Taste is overwhelmed with hops, as expected. The overpowering grapefruit flavor may be a turn off for some beer drinkers. Personally I don’t care for hoppy beer but this is just like any other double IPA. jazz88 (2235), San Francisco, California, USA Dec 20, 2006 Bottle. An orange brown color with a laced tan head. A malty and medicinal hop aroma with fruit (apricot, orange, and peach) and flowers. Malty rich but not thick. Fresh liquid hop flavors with orange, grapefruit, wood and flowers. csbosox (1076), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Dec 19, 2006 22oz bomber. Recently available in Mo. Copper color. Aroma is malty, spicy, citrus, and herbal. Taste, at first, is toffee, pine, tart/bitter earthiness, some unripe orange, with a moderate bitter finish that tastes mostly of tangerines, honey, and earthiness. Enjoyable, but not something I would buy again in a $5+ bomber. PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Dec 15, 2006 Pours nice and hazy deep orange amber with a nice creamy white head which leaves awesome lacing. Has a tart, citric perfumy aroma. Touch of plasticy alcohol, and rubbery?. Seems un-natural somehow. Strange flavor as well. Also has plasticy/rubber notes. There’s some vanilla like sweetness from the malty background. Evident alcohol is present. Hayish, leafy hop bite, grapefruity middle and a long resiny dry finish. There’s something strange about this one. Can’t quite articulate it though. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Dec 13, 2006 Bomber. Thanks, Luiss! Pours a deep cloudy burnished copper with a tall, thick, bubbly off-white head. Big bitter nose of pine and resin and, alas, a confusing sour note that’s not far off of urine. Or maybe horseblanket and foot...perhaps a slight infection. Seems to blow away after it’s been in the glass a while. Assertive attack, but nothing unsettling by the standards of a DIPA: highish body, active carb, assertive flavors. The pine and resin carry throughout the palate right to the finish. But for the weird olfactory notes this would be a pretty solid DIPA on the pine side of the hop flavor spectrum. MrBendo (1039), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Dec 12, 2006 Updated: Oct 28, 2007On tap at Capone’s. Pours mostly clear orange with a huge head. Head retention is medium and left good lacing. Aroma of grapefruit hops and a little oily resin
Flavor is pine, citrus, caramel malt. Malt backbone is present, but doesn’t really balance the intense hops. Long, bitter finish. This is really very good. ogglethorp (882), Ohio, USA Dec 11, 2006 Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy copper-orange, with a quickly diminshing off white head, some lacing. Aroma is light caramel, honey, brown sugar, citrus, pine. Flavor is pine, hops, grapefruit, sweet. Palate is medium with medium carbonation, bitter finish. Better than I expected.
