pinkzambia (986), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 2, 2006 22 oz. Bottle: Cloudy copper color with a small dense white head. Sweet citrusy hop aroma and a little alcohol. As the commercial description states, this is extremely balanced ale for a 2IPA. The hops are a tangy, but I am impressed with how easy this is to drink and still has the hoppy character of the stlye. It has a great bitter aftertaste that lodges itself in the back top of your mouth and says "Hey, little buddy, why don’t you take another sip?" So, I oblige. This is something I could drink on a regular basis if I lived a little closer to Battle Creek. BuckeyeBoy (1645), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 2, 2006 22oz Bottle Pours out a copper topped with a nice off white head. A Great Hop aroma. A nice spice and hop tast to tis one. Thanks Pinkzambia for this one. IndianaRed (1553), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 2, 2006 Bottle pours a hazy dark orange amber. NIce, lasting creamy off-white head. Lots of thick sturdy lacing. Aroma is modest hoppy, citrusy notes with some sweet carmely malt flavors as well. Flavor is a softly woody malt profile with fairly bitter grassy hop componant. Some soapy tastes as well. A bit light on the palate for a double. The ABVm while a bit high, is not very noticeable. Thanks to Pinkzambia for sharing this one. barleyPops (1079), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA Sep 21, 2006 bomber courtesy of Styles. copper, orangey on the pour with a short lived off-white rocky head. aroma like I’m walking through a spruce forest. flavor is a mix of piney, grapefruity hops with some toasty caramel and earthy notes thrown in. palate is slightly oily and almost full. very enjoyable, but for an IIPA, it could have used more hops. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Sep 20, 2006 Hazy orange. The head is tight, off-white and slowly diminishing. Nicely supported spicy, citrusy, mostly sharp hops are offered in the nose. Rather harmonious flavour development, a most interesting malt bill approach, I’ve no idea what varieties were used, but they’re very well extracted, fruity and procure just the right cerealic touch. The bitterness remains restrained, cutting through the sweetness and ensuring refreshment rather than obscuring the senses. Medium bodied, cleansing carbonation. Very good IPA. MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 15, 2006 Any first impressions?
-A ring of foam surrounds the veiled orange gown.
-A beauteous perfume of citrus, oranges, and flower petals seduces the nostrils.
-Muscular herbal, floral hoppiness expands into orangey fruitiness, a large flavor spectrum on the hoppy side.
-The lean mouthfeel is softly carbonated, and ends up easily drinkable for its size.
What if you dig deeper?
-The leafy, fresh hop bitterness grabs the tongue, and charms it.
-There is barely enough malty sweetness to balance, but somehow it is enough to provide a solid body on which the hops thrive.
-A fun hop fest for sure, and a quality offering from Arcadia.
Bottle; no date. Lubiere (4464), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Sep 12, 2006 Hazy dark amber with a thin off white head. Smooth hops and fur tree, caramel, less intense than the Simcoe. In mouth, a light malt and hops, with light refreshing menthol. Medium bodied, nice alcohol warmt in final. Nice. Enjoyed with the Mtl Crew Sept. 9, 2006. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Sep 11, 2006 Updated: May 8, 2007Pours rich amber / bronze with a nice tan head. The aroma has a good deal of floral and earthy hops with some musty caramel backbone. There are light traces of a mellow citrus character as well. Medium to full bodied beer with some soft carbonation. Taste starts with an off putting old dirty caramel malt. There is a nice floral / spicy hop aspect, but that doesn’t save it from the malt taste as well as some astringency being present. The finish is mainly the spicy and caramel aspects. This is okay, but not what an IIPA should be. (7/3/6/3/14 - 3.3)
Rerate notes - The aroma and appearance are about the same with this fresh bottle. The taste is significantly better ~ a lot for of an earthy malt and hop taste. The finish is like a jacked-up version of a British style IPA. While I prefer the West Coast style this is a respectable IIPA.
