pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Aug 3, 2006 Pours a hazy brownish copper with an ample dense offwhite head--very appealing. The nose is also quite appealing. Big floral to citrusy hops with a nice underlying well rounded sweetness. Juicy. The mouthfeel is a bit creamy, but not quite as viscous and thick as I’d expect out of an IIPA. The flavor is much more subdued than the aroma would indicate. Caramel sort of malts are overshadowed but a floral to piney hop presence. The bitterness strikes early in a pleasant way and stays on throughout the aftertaste in a more or less even way. Definitely a biting mouthabrading bitterness, though not the sort of bitterness that blows one away. I think I like this one more with each sip. Really hides the alcohol well, and I remember this as being a relatively cheap bomber. I can imagine this being a bit better fresher if this really is a winter brew. sliffy (1966), Columbus, Ohio, USA Aug 2, 2006 Bottle: Dark copper in color, with a small, but long lasting white head. Aroma, Citrus and spice and some sweet malts. Flavor, resinous earthy and citrus hops. Some sweetness to balance. Very drinkable beer, carbonation is nice, the finish is just bitter enough to not leave you dissapointed. I usually don’t like to drink a whole bomber of an 8% beer, but this is going down great. blankboy (3165), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 1, 2006 Bottle shared with GregClow, jerc & tupalev at our Hotel in Michigan -- courtesy of jerc. Pours a hazy dark reddish-orange with some floaties and a spare off-white head. Nice citrus hop aroma with lots of sweetness, some spices and sufficient malt backbone. Flavour is predominently citrus and resin hops nicely backed by caramel malt. Medium bodied. A very enjoyavble I2PA, I’m glad I’ve got a bottle of it to myself at home. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 31, 2006 Bottle shared with GregClow, Jerc, and Blankboy after MBG 06 - Jerc’s bottle. Really juicy citrus orange aroma - lovely. Medium orange, good sized frothy white head. Nice hop taste - dry citrus hops! That’s it! Ok, some alcohol too, but nothing overpowering. Decent enough body to back it up - never strays into one-dimensional territory. Nice stuff. DougShoemaker (2855), Toronto, Canada Jul 31, 2006 Pronounced orangey hops aroma, piney as well, Cloudiest orange, pours a small custard head, some very pretty lace. Hearty hops flavour, malty backbone, some spice. Beautifully balanced, medium bodied, quite bitter. Terrific! Thanks HogTownHarry! HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jul 30, 2006 Bottle (650ml). Hazy orange with a solid foamy creamy lasting off-white head. Very hoppy aroma of bitter citrus pith, quite dry and wheat/grainy, soft and a little lactic with tangy tropical fruit notes. Taste is sweeter and juicier than I’d imagined, sweet citrus juice malt initially, then the bitter pith hops begin to build to a longish bitter but not overwhelming finish. Decent body, quite astringent, bordering on acidic, but well balanced - very good, not quite great, but I would drink this again any day. GregClow (2493), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 30, 2006 Bottle shared with blankboy, jerc and tupalev at the hotel after the MBG Summer Festival - jerc’s bottle. Hazy dark amber with a good sized off-white head. Aroma is nicely hopped, with those wonderful grapefruit and pineapple notes that I really like. Mouthfeel is soft and creamy, very nice. Flavour is big and well balanced, with the citric, resiny hops backed up nicely by sweet caramel malts. A very well made IIPA, and a great way to cap off a day of drinking fantastic beer! hopscotch (5440), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jul 28, 2006 Bottle... Very hazy orange ale with a large, frothy, off-white head. Excellent retention. Malty, fruity nose with lots of freshly sliced grapefruit, pineapple, peach and dashes of evergreen and black tea. Hefty malt backbone with lots of hop bitterness for good balance. Flavors of grapefruit, toffee and apricot. Full-bodied with an astringent mouthfeel and gentle carbonation. Lengthy, dry, grassy finish. A shout goes out to WBC for shipping me the bottle!
