Pawola22 (676), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Apr 8, 2009 On tap at the Flying Saucer in KC. Pours a cloudy, copper-orange colored body with a big, dense, long lasting, off-white head that leaves a lot of nice lacing. Aroma is sweet and semi piney. Mostly malty and an orange citrus pine. Taste is kind of funky. Hard to say what makes it so funky, but there’s something about the malts that is throwing me off. The hops are plentiful and give off a somewhat over-ripe orange taste, but the malts are messing with my taste buds. Its almost like a stale slice of toaste. Palate is medium bodied and has a long lasting sweet citrus aftertaste. Overall, not a bad beer, but definitely not amongst my favorites when it comes to DIPA’s. Kind of on the tame side. daknole (2802), Plantation, Florida, USA Apr 7, 2009 Bottle. Not half bad! Medium brownish color. tan head. Aroma has some very nice floral and pine hops with caramel malt, and some sweet notes...almost like an overripe orange. A good hop bit is mixed well with the generous caramel malt bill. I enjoyed this. TURDFERGUSON (1594), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Apr 6, 2009 Bottle shared at Tom’s house. First beer of the night--always tastes good! Pretty nice stuff here, yet not mindblowing. Sprucey, pine, some citrus. Strykzone (1458), Wood River, Illinois, USA Apr 3, 2009 Pours an opaque caramel color with the tiniest head. A big citrus hop aroma that has a sweet side. Flavor is aggressive with a complex fruit profile. The fruit is both tart and sweet and that sweetness is what balances the more tart hops. Caramel is not significant. Warmer temp brings a peppery spice that adds a resonant quality to the beer. This is delightfully refreshing. I found this to be unique, flavorful, and interesting. In other words the essence of craft brewing. malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA Apr 2, 2009 12 ounce bottle in pint glass. Caramel color with nice lasting head and lace. Fresh hop piney soapy grapefruit aroma. Hop forward piney resiny orangey citrus flavor with ass-backward toasty malty sweet finish. The beer is balanced but backward. Still, not a bad effort, just not one of the real good ones (IMHO). I’m not sure who is looking for "huge Maris Otter" malt in their DIPA. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Mar 30, 2009 Like their IPA, i found this beer uninspiring, and a tad boring, and under flavored for the style. The hops are there, but just now what i expect in a DIPA, and its pretty one dimensional with a lack of malt. Not a bad beer, just not great, and i dont see myself having it again. dm9831 (1167), Monee, Illinois, USA Mar 29, 2009 hazy orange medium tan head, slightly lacy. aroma is rich citrus and pine hops. decent flavor, but not as intense as the nose would suggest. some sweet maly notes. medium bodied, light bitter finish. lots of important stuff here, sweet, bitter, dry, citrus, floral, and probably other descriptive stuff, but maybe i’m just looped. bobmer from family liquors in homewood. Zinister (1198), Houston, Texas, USA Mar 14, 2009 Decent DIPA wtih typical citrus hops and good malt sweetness. Nothing amazing, but still pretty drinkable and enjoyable.
