billlmiky (15), , New York, USA Jan 22, 2009 definitely pretty tasty. but didnt blow my socks off. lots of hoppy flavor. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Jan 22, 2009 On tap at Mr Goodbar, Buffalo NY. Pours dark orange maroon. Aroma had a wierd chemical hop thing going on which seemed to dissapate as the pint went down. The first initial sips also has the wierd buring plastic taste but as it I continued it let. Then it seemed like english hop bomb. Dcent DIPA but Ive had better Heathen (723), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Jan 20, 2009 THOUGHTS: Not all that great. Very artificial hops aroma and chemical hop flavor. Hid alcohol fairly well. One of the first DIPAs I haven’t liked. The flavor grew on me a little as it warmed, but it was still not that great. I just really didn’t like this one, even though I do think Arcadia usually brews nice beer.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a medium, brownish orange with a large, creamy, off-white head that mostly diminished, but left excellent lacing. The aroma was moderate malt, heavy pine, resin and orange hops, alcohol, medicine, Band-aid, soap and chemical. The flavor started out sweet and finished very sweet and bitter (cloyingly sweet and almost an earwax bitterness) with a long duration. There was caramel, piney hops and a little orange, chemicals, Band-aid, and sorta soapy. The medium to full body was syrupy and sticky on the lips with tingly carbonation. shawn14505 (34), Rochester, New York, USA Jan 17, 2009 On draft at Donnely’s, Fairport, NY. A huge noseful of hops on initial sniff. The hops are good, but what is even better is the malts. More balanced than most imperial DIPA’s. The alcohol is a bit weak for a double - in my opinion they should range from 9%-12%. Great beer, and what a bargain at $4 a 16oz draft. Good stuff. WallyWalrus (205), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Jan 16, 2009 12oz bottle (thanks Gurst!). Pours a hazy copper color with a thin and lacy off-white head. Aroma is very well-balanced, with notes of hops, spices, caramel, roasted malt, and fruit. Taste is creamy and full, with initial flavors of apple, citrusy hops, and alcohol mellowing out into a tart finish of spices and juniper. More balanced than most other IIPAs, and with good results. Aubrey (2773), Denver, Colorado, USA Dec 30, 2008 Nice lace and head with an amber hue. Rich texture. Fruity apple, orange and lemon accented by caramel and alcohol nips. Grassy, piney, zingy hops. Decent brew. Gethinbeer (993), Nova Scotia, Canada Dec 30, 2008 From bottle thanks to JoeMcPhee. Rich, fruity.citrus with spices in the aroma. Full of delicious hops. Hazy, orange in colour with a thin white head. lace all the way through. Hopped ale, very bitter and slightly fruity, which leaves a cool bitter tang. Delicious hopped IPA. HonkeyBra (1258), Lemont, Illinois, USA Dec 28, 2008 Got this on cask at the HopCat in Grand Rapids, MI. Orange pour with a clingy, sticky white head. Bitty, piney nose. Flavor tastes more like a heavier IPA than a Double IPA. Maybe a bit caramel. The Shorts IPA I had afterwards was much more hoppy. Thinnish Palate, kind of boozy. Pretty disappointing, but Im not surprised.
