| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 26, 2006 Burnt gold. Caked-on pearly foam retains beautifully. Attractive bouquet of pinewood, jellied toast, juniper berries, and mandarin oranges. Light note of butterscotch. Bottle conditioned - quite soft and full as a result. Poignant hop bitterness immediately commences and never releases its tight grip. Rather multidimensional, though, as softer citrus notes unite with a flurry of fruity esters to deepen the brashness. Significant hop-derived acidity unfortunately appears at the center, but an ample dose of juicy and husky malts dispense a hefty burst of toast and glazed sweetness. Bushy hop flavors dwindle as a firm edge of pinewood rises to ignite a cooling juniper effect. Rose petals permeate the impeccably attenuated finish before chalky Ringwood textures remind you of its English influence by gently scrubbing the tongue. Tightly woven aftertaste of candied peaches swirled with a delicate drop of butterscotch. A bit too acidic, yes, but the hop nose is delightfully polished and fragrant, and the malts are sound in stance. Gotta love it…an English- themed hop monster with a full-on American twist. Another keeper from the Ringwood artists. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 11, 2006 Updated: May 8, 2007Pours rich amber / bronze with a nice tan head. The aroma has a good deal of floral and earthy hops with some musty caramel backbone. There are light traces of a mellow citrus character as well. Medium to full bodied beer with some soft carbonation. Taste starts with an off putting old dirty caramel malt. There is a nice floral / spicy hop aspect, but that doesn’t save it from the malt taste as well as some astringency being present. The finish is mainly the spicy and caramel aspects. This is okay, but not what an IIPA should be. (7/3/6/3/14 - 3.3)
Rerate notes - The aroma and appearance are about the same with this fresh bottle. The taste is significantly better ~ a lot for of an earthy malt and hop taste. The finish is like a jacked-up version of a British style IPA. While I prefer the West Coast style this is a respectable IIPA. patrick767 (2051), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 6, 2006 bottle sample from the table at Dark Lord Day - Pours a hazy amber color with an aroma of piney hops and citrus. There’s enough malts to back up the intense hops in the flavor, and there’s a nice, long hoppy finish. Very good. I’ll have to try a bottle for myself. cheapdark (2047), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA
| 1.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 7/20 | Dec 22, 2006 Had this on tap at the Trivia Pub in Moon Township. Looks like any other orangy/yellow pale yellow american style beer but the aroma is hops. Swirl it around in the glass and it appears a little thicker than most beers. Taste is overwhelmed with hops, as expected. The overpowering grapefruit flavor may be a turn off for some beer drinkers. Personally I don’t care for hoppy beer but this is just like any other double IPA. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA

Big bready malt aroma with flowery hop s that put out mango, pine and grapefruit notes.
Nicely balanced, oily, creamy and soft yet full bodied.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 5, 2006 Updated: Aug 27, 2007Sampled on draft at the Sharp Edge in Pittsburgh this beer poured an orange-copper color with a medium sized orange-white head. The aroma is strong grapefruity and floral hops. The flavor is sweet and has strong grapefruity and piney hops and a dry bitter finish. The hops linger but there really is a noticeable lack of malt. The beer is very one dimensional and bit lacking though there are some nice elements.
