| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 9, 2007 Cloudy amber with big off white head. Hops are held in check by the malt, but a pretty nice bitter finish. Almost bitter w/out the good taste from the hops. Dry. OK....but not great. dm9831 (1167), Monee, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 29, 2009 hazy orange medium tan head, slightly lacy. aroma is rich citrus and pine hops. decent flavor, but not as intense as the nose would suggest. some sweet maly notes. medium bodied, light bitter finish. lots of important stuff here, sweet, bitter, dry, citrus, floral, and probably other descriptive stuff, but maybe i’m just looped. bobmer from family liquors in homewood. moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 6, 2006 The Hopmouth pours a murky amber color with a great head that has good retention and leaves plenty of lacing on the glass. The aroma gets you plenty of the classic pine aroma as well as some caramel malt in the back. The taste hits you with plenty of very strong hop bitterness right at first. It also has a sort of tanginess on the tongue as well. A decent malt backbone balances it out in the finish. This is refreshing, but not light by any means. A very good IPA. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 6, 2007 Poured a cloudy amber with a large fizzy/fluffy white head. Aroma is light for a double IPA, some grapefruit, light pineapple, some cinnamon spiciness, a bit of orange. Flavor is bitter with some earthy grassiness, a slight touch of orange, finishing with some sticky dry toffee. Body is somewhat soft. Overall bitter but subdued, with slightly underwhelming hop complexity. Surprising to find this was reforumlated from Batch #999, as I found that distinctly hoppier. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jul 4, 2008 Stained oak color with zero head. Mainly a pine resin aroma. Taste is fairly fruity from the hops but there is no malt backbone to offset this. The finish is mildly bitter. A below average wxample. porterhouse (1154), Alna, Maine, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 19, 2007 (22 oz. bottle via trade with <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=3 target=blank>shigadeyo, thanks Craig!) Piney and hot...Pours cloudy amber with three fingers of biege head. Head is quite slow to recede, finally forming into about 1/2’ of a lumpy cap. Aroma of pine and grapefruit with some sugar rock candy underneath. Mouthfeel faitly soft and smooth, a little sticky. Heavy sheets of lacing. Flavor is quite hot from fore through finish. Lots of pine, some grapefruit, very little malt able to fight through. Medium-heavy bitter bite in finish. A little harsh.
