In a night of tasting a couple different double IPA’s this one was my least favorite. It was still a decent beer, the only knock I have on it is, that is was to sweet. Lots of maltyness as everyone else says. As others point out that it was made with English hops which have never been to my liking as well. Over all not a bad beer at all, I just would not get it again.*****Update******Gave it a second chance... Original score was a 3.3. Dark red in color, decent head. Aroma of bitter english hops. This one wasnt as sweet as the last one I had. A little more balanced. Overall a solid DIPA. sheatripper (863), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Nov 12, 2006 Bomber. Slightly hazy copper/orange, with a quickly diminshing head leaving thin bands of lacing. Hoppy aroma of orange and pineapple, wth some bubblegum and tree sap scents. Flavor was mostly astringent resiny hops. Kind of unbalanced not only in the hop profile...was hoping for more citrusy and tropical notes and less resin...but also unbalanced in the malt side as well-- not enough of a caramel/toffee foundation to sustain the big hop infusion. Palate was kind of chalky and powdery. Basically too unbalanced and not much of a standout from other 2IPAs. Taverner (860), San Ramon, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 6, 2009 Aroma is malty. Pours cloudy copper with beige head. Sweet, and yet finishes dry - Some residual hoppiness there - I can tell there was some serious floral action going on in the past. I would love to try this one fresh. After a few sips it has become a malt bomb. glennmastrange (858), hobe sound, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 27, 2009 Bottle. Moderate roasted and caramel notes for the malt, moderate to heavy pine and herbs for the hops, light broth for the yeast, and background notes of berry, pepper and dried fruit. Head is huge, frothy, off-white with good lacing and is fully lasting. Color is murky light orange/brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes lightly sweet, acidic and bitter. Palate is medium, oily with a lively carbonation and a lightly astringent finish. The limited bitterness of this beer is unique to the point it separates it from other quality DIPAs. Barrios (858), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

Flavor is floral and citrus hops as well as caramelized malts. Nice floral and very slightly bitter finish. nolankowal (854), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Pungent aroma, similar to a tomato plant...very pleasant. Overbearing vegitable and pine flavor doesn’t let go which in the end it just doesn’t seem to be balanced out.
09/02/06 - trying this one out again...the pour is really nice...hazy dorty orange with a soft light tan head. Aroma holds some fresh hoppy elements: pine, grass and citrus all seem to be present...some pineapple and some light bready malt...a bit of smoke. The flavor holds a good bit of the grass and grapefruit as well as the tropical fruit...a bit of vanilla and dry malt...the hops certainly overcome the malt making the brew more fresh and crisp rather than rich and sweet. Decent body the holds a crisp bitterness from beginning to the dry, warming, bitter finish. The carbonation is nice as well, making itself known without being too brash. The malt presense seems to come out a bit more as it warms but not too much more. Overall, a lot nicer than I recall...a lot of west coast qualities in a brew from the mid-west...and that’s gotta stand for somethin. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Smell of light hops, flowers, caramel, ginger, pepper, citrus, candy rasins, pine and malt. Taste of hops, pine, grass, malt, orange peal, clove, pepper, ginger ale, alcohol, caramel and cotton candy. A minor harsh aftertaste. Very interesting double IPA. A lot of spice going on in this one. msante79 (835), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 20, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours hyazy copper with white head. Aroma is hoppy with citrus and pine and some caramel malt notes. Flavor is piney hops, citrus and caramel malts. Finishes bitter and mouthfeel is medium. Does not have huge amount of hops you expect from a double but this bottle has some age on it. Still a solid brew and I am glad I tried it.
