Hoppy nose with citrus, pine and resin, as well as some note of fluor. Not much room for malt here. Resiny and quite fruity flavor with some beefstocky maltyness, sure on the bitter side. Full body, and a long, piney finish. Pleasant, but doesn’t stand out. (080301) JoeMcPhee (5030), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 2, 2006 Updated: Mar 24, 2007Tap at Village Publick House. Deep amber beer with a thick creamy head. Aroma is quite fresh with loads of spicy pine hop aroma. A touch of resiny character as well. Some spicy hops as well. Malts are quite light and lean with a touch of sweet toastiness. Flavour is piny but a bit more muted than the aroma might suggest. Still, this is much better than I recall it being.
Tap at HDG. Golden coloured beer with a thin white head. Aroma of earthy hops, along with some pine and grapefruit. Quite wet and dank tasting, herbaceous and earthy with a touch of cologne, earthiness and light fruit. Flavour is quite good, loads of earthy wet hops behind a pale malt base with a touch of honeyed sweetness. More IPA than DIPA, but it’s still very good.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 22, 2006 Bottle. Slightly hazy orange and copper color. Tall, clinging tan head. Nose is moderately faint, but full of sugary and fruity scents, nice sweet fruit hop notes. Very sweet and fruity up front, full of sugary bubblegum and yeast flavors. Creamy texture, reminds me of Hopsickle actually, like some other west coast DIPAs. Has a moderate level of bitterness. Good stuff, but not exceptional. Crisp, fresh, lively on the tongue, sweet, but lacking the dynamic hop complexity that could take it to another level. Cornfield (4977), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 26, 2006 Kind of low tasting on the IBU scale for an IIPA, but not a bad brew at all. Deep orange with a creamy beige head, it’s got the grapefruit, piney, and floral aromas that one comes to expect in the style, albeit a bit tamed down. The caramel backbone is solid, supporting some good hop bitterness. Nice lingering hoppy finish. I wish they’d kick it up a notch, though.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 10, 2007 First impressions first, WOW who sprayed the disinfectant in the outhouse and bottled it. Overpowering pine and rotting grains. Some melon, and citrus come out as it sets, but I still have reminders of the outhouse in the pine forest at the cabin. Hazed light amber color with a canvas colored head. Very smooth and pleasant feel. Mild orange liqueur mixes nicely with pale, slightly earthy malt. Finish and linger have a mild burn some more candy orange flavors. To be blunt, if this didn’t stink, I would really be enjoying this one. Some of the scents have subsided, but some of the nuances are still there and I think about a morning after and an overzealous use of room freshener. Flavors are balanced better than most IIPAs with a nice mix of malt, hops, fruit and light spice. Tmoney99 (4794), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 5, 2006 Bottle. Deep amber with a large frothy white head that lasted and produced good lacing. Good hoppy pine and citrus aroma. Medium body with a slick texture. Complex moderate bitter flavor with a long finish. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 23, 2006 Bottle from Super Saver. Pours hazy deep copper with 1-finger off-white head. Aroma of huge fruity piney hops, caramel malt, tropical fruit (honeydew, canteloupe, tangerine) and black pepper. The flavor starts piney hoppy and tropical fruity, with the malt coming in at the end, and the malt giving more way to the hops as it warms, which causes this to get a tad bittery piney and unbalanced at the end. If you are a hophead, you will love this one. Lubiere (4552), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 12, 2006 Hazy dark amber with a thin off white head. Smooth hops and fur tree, caramel, less intense than the Simcoe. In mouth, a light malt and hops, with light refreshing menthol. Medium bodied, nice alcohol warmt in final. Nice. Enjoyed with the Mtl Crew Sept. 9, 2006.
