mribm (419), Hurley, New York, USA Nov 22, 2007 Aroma: Very aromatic, smelling of pine scented hops.
Appearance: Poured a cloudy orange color with a big frothy, long lasting head which left ample lacing throughout the entire glass.
Flavor: Sweet, malty, hoppy and delicious describe this Double IPA.
Palate: Nice mouthfeel for a big beer like this. Hides the alcohol well and has lots of hops in the finish.
Overall: I love this ale and will have to give it many more tries. It’s going to be a Hoppy Christmas in Hurley. New York! imanerd (37), Novi, Michigan, USA Oct 11, 2006 Everybody has described it as well, if not better than i could. It’s tough to find a good 2IPA around, so this has become one of my best friends. Modulo (6), Sellersville, Pennsylvania, USA does not count Nov 10, 2007 Just recently poured fresh from tap. Delicious creamy head and enough citrus to just cut through the hoppiness of this beer chronictonic (399), Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, USA May 10, 2007 on tap - union jacks, glenside pa
medium gold in color - small but rock head. huge aromas of grapefruit - you can almost smell the hops from arms length. flavor is al about the hops - starting of chewy and resiny with lots of tart citrus flavors, developing into a fresh green hop flavor and ending with a punch of bitterness. another fine beer from arcadia! elektrogeist (158), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jul 19, 2006 22oz bomber from blue max liquors minneapolis: uncaps with a huge aroma of fresh hops.. did they dry hop in the bottle? ;) flavor is surprisingly smooth for a double IPA but very tasty, not at all overly aggressive. pleasant and long lasting taste of hops on the palate. definitely a brew to try. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Jan 13, 2007 Pours a nice copper color, topped by an inch of cream colored foam. Good head retention and lacing. Hop bitterness, pine, and light malt in the aroma.
Flavor is pretty intense with big piney hops and big caramel malt. Toss in some citrus hop flavors. Toss in some toffee-like malt flavors. Delightful pine and grapefruit and alcohol in the finish and aftertaste. Just when all Double IPAs start to taste too much alike, this one comes along and stands on its own. As hoppy and bitter as it is, the malt really makes this one.
Medium to full body, gentle but substantial carbonation. coolbreese (1), USA does not count Mar 8, 2006 Everything I think a Double IPA should be. Very hoppy (could stand some more bittering hops), slight alcohol taste, copper color....very drinkable xav33 (313), Midland, MI, Michigan, USA Nov 30, 2006 Arcadia Hopmouth Double IPA
22 oz bomber
Medium pour in a tulip glass
Unknown bottling, mouthed 11/06
Poured a clear brownish orange with a huge mostly lasting creamy off-white head with good lacing.
Smelt of moderate pineapple upside down cake, spruce, orange rinds, cookies.
Taste was upfront moderate bitter earthy and pine followed by strong bitter mold, toasted dark bread and grapefruit rinds with a light sweet toffee kick on a long bittersweet citrus and grassy finish. Palate was medium bodied, creamy, lively carbonated and strongly astringent.
Overall, one hell of a punch to the mouth. Everything flirts with perfection, except the mouth weight, texture and carbonation could be tweaked with a little bit, maybe enliven the malt flavors.
