Flavor less hoppy that expected or desired, has a big, bready maltiness, but the hops are a bit thin. Definite pine, a bit of citrus. Nice palate, quite thick and creamy, but just not hoppy. It’s an over-malted IIPA, if such a thing is possible. bhensonb (4344), Woodland, California, USA

Resin aroma backed by a little roasted malt. Medium body with fizzy/creamy carbonation. Flavor is smooth resin hop over very light malt. Arguably, and I never thought I’d say this, it might use more malt. On the other hand there is a fair amount of hop here, and it is arguably balanced. Nice, light, pine finish. Worth a try. It does improve with continued consumption, and it was pretty good to start. Jokes (1453), Chicago, Illinois, USA

An interesting nose of pine, caramel, warming alcohol, whole grains and a light toasted element. It’s definitely hoppy but with loads of sweet malt laying underneath. The body is robust and full with a nice heft and lively carbonation. Once in the mouth, things start sweet with malt, caramel and and grains. In the end, the warming alcohol and bitter hops combine to have nice finish. It’s not my favorite Double IPA, but it’s reasonably enjoyable and reminds me of Molyan’s offering. Pours cloudy amber-chestnut color with a large and fluffy beige head. Aroma of toffee, citrus and pine forest. Flavor is interesting tart and a bit bready, toasty notes, pine, lemon peel and fresh bitter herbs and evergreen oil in the finish. Medium to full body and smooth carbonation. sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 4, 2006 Updated: Jul 7, 2007i really disliked the finish on this. it was a lasting tackiness. the taste was watered down generally. not much of an IIPA. the smell was decent though, as well as the appearance. rerate: some weird candyish caramel in the aroma. taste is indeed watered down and perhaps a bit lagerish. no alcohol. hops aren’t super bitter, they’re in fact pretty fresh. so it’s a mixed bag. extremely drinkable for the abv, perhaps owing to the wateriness.... it’s definitely above average at best. deadguy (37), Columbus, Ohio, USA

"Subtle" is the best word to describe this beer, not one flavor or characteristic that over powers. Everything kind of mingles to a earthy, hoppy malt. Wish it had a bit more of a kick with the hops.
I would have to say the best thing about this beer is lack of alcohol burn at such a high AVB. Sammy (4034), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

It’s got a generous head, and some pine smell. The malts are there but the IBU taste fairly high. I would drink it again. Mangino (1027), Mississippi, USA
