Gregis (884), Overland Park, Kansas, USA May 15, 2008 Pours a cloudy burnt orange with a large, pitted, beige head that leaves behind wispy/patchy lace. The nose is a "dusty", solid grapefruit with a light caramel malt note in support. Also present are lighter supporting notes of spruce and mango. Medium-bodied and soft with a moderate hit of hop bitterness at the woody-dry finish. The flavor is of sweet caramel malt followed by grapefruity citrus and moderately resinous hop notes. The finish is fairly bitter, with a lingering "tongue-squeeze" coming after the swallow. The bittering hops on this brew seem to supersede those used for flavor and aroma. It’s a solid and fairly tasty brew; it’s just not a top tier IIPA.
gearbike (340), West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA Aug 21, 2008 On tap. Big hops are a bit of a suprise since you can not really smell them. Think syrup sweetness. some light citrus. Plesant. Nate (2212), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 20, 2008 On tap at The Knickerbocker. Great fresh grassy hops aroma, pine and grapefruit, apricot and peach. Very fragrant. Nice malt sweetness. Dark amber brown clear with foamy off-white lacing head. Medium body with medium carbonation. Starts with nice malty character before getting nailed with hops. Fresh grassy hops and fresh apricot. Tons of juicy hop flavor. Medium-high bitter finish and smooth bitter after. Nice balance and great flavor. Nice IPA. wetherel (977), Carlsbad, California, USA Aug 20, 2008 22oz bomber from kmweaver. Thanks Ken! Amber color. Nice malty melanoidin backbone. Reminds me of many San Diego style IPAs, such as Double Bastard, Sleighor, Dreadnaught. Though I think it is reasonably fresh, you can tell it is a bit off it’s peak. Very well balanced...i.e. balanced toward very hoppy. Nice hoppy aroma. Nice grapefruit hop bitterness. Very drinkable. Very nice. colemgm8 (363), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Aug 19, 2008 shared bomber. pours a deep murky golden with an average white head. I wish there were more hops in the aroma... it is kinda quiet for a IIPA. Solid hop presence on the tongue, but falls short on the finish. Doesn’t really stick with you like a IIPA should. Soft on the sides and lively on the front of the palate. Average IIPA, very drinkable but falls short from something I’d seek out again. dkachur (725), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Aug 17, 2008 22 oz. bottle from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Orange red pour with a three finger head. Good lacing and retention. Big wet resiny hop aroma. Hops are assertive in the taste... citrus and resin. Brown sugar like malt sweetness. Well balanced. Full bodied.
