Jun 26, 2006 Updated: Mar 1, 20082005 vintage. Pours pitch black with a small, tan head. Lasting hazy cover. The aroma is heavy roast, slightly burnt, coffee, raisins, chocolate. The flavor is loaded with prune juice, lots of molases, some chocolate. Full, sticky body, coating with a long, bitter dark chocolate finish.

Jun 26, 2006 The high rating of this surprises me. Sure, it is a good imperial stout but not quite of this stature. Pours opaque black with a moderate brown head. Aroma held notes of chocolate, dried fruit, some roasted coffee, alcohol. Medium bodied and smooth but lacking viscosity. Alcohol too evident in the flavor, detracting from the chocolate and coffee and fruit taste. A little salty at the finish.

Jun 22, 2006 Sampled at the monthly meeting of the Champaign Urbana beer club. Tasted side by side with Blackout Stout. Many similarities between the two. This provides notes of chocolate and coffee with a good, viscous mouthfeel and a fine finish. Notes of worchestshire sauce come across as well. Well done, nice drinking.

Jun 21, 2006 Bottle: Pours jet black with a small brown head that diminishes quickly. Aroma is sweet with hints of coffee and an alcohol presence. Flavor is roasted coffee with a creamy texture and bitter finish.

May 16, 2006 Updated: Aug 4, 2006Tap @ brewery: Black opaque color with big tan/brown head. Aroma is malty, bit of roastyness, cherries, oak. Flavor is chewy malts, fair amount of bitter malts, hint of brandy, slight smokyness. Nice balancing bitterness with a nice sweetness.

Apr 13, 2006 Bottle pouring to a black body under a dark tan head. Drippy lacing. Dark fruits, acidic roast, and alcohol in the aroma. The dark fruity malts (let’s say raisins and plum) take center stage in the flavor and are surrounded by chocolate, roast malt, and bright dandelion/apple skin hops. The finish leaves you with patent malt, chocolate sweetness and some raspberries. The mouthfeel could be a bit thicker but the light carbonation lets the flavors stick around. A well-blended assortment of flavors that make for a classic imperial stout.

Apr 9, 2006 Thanks to MikeMac for this one. Pours out a deep black color with a small somewhat lacing tan head. Aroma is nice and roasty with a note of hops. Taste is very nice deep roasty flavor with some semi-sweet chocolate fruit with some coffee here and there. Good amount of hops on the finish. Very velvet like mouth feel. Pretty good brew
