I got the bottle a couple months ago in Kentucky. At the time, I’d never heard of Arcadia but now it begun to trickle into NJ. If this beer is any indication, I’ll be looking for more samples from this brewery in the future.<!-- p -->
I certainly didn’t expect as much commotion when cracked the cap on this one, but it opened with a whoosh and a rush of carbonation followed by a glass and bottle overflowing with foam. I used two glasses so I could get all the beer out of the bottle and off the thick sediment that seemed to be encouraging the vigorous foaming. My first inclination is to think this must be infected, but even if it is it smells great so onward I plunge willingly into this crazy brew. The beer is a glowing copper-amber with a crazy beige head as previously described. It’s rocky and lasting with large bubbles. the aroma is resinous, floral perfumed, and showing hints of citrus all on top of very mild biscuit and butter malts. Digging deeper, there’s a nice emergence of brett and his cohorts in those perfumes, but they’re mingling nicely with the rest of the players and that’s just fine by me. The body is as active as expected with massive effervescence, airy and light. Soft, fresh, buttery notes add a sweetness and creaminess to the earthy hops and toasty malts. Like the aroma, there are birght highlights of citrus pith, resin, and delectable floral notes. Whatever is wrong with this stuff (infection, if it’s that) has done nothing to diminish my enjoyment of it other than the body being too bubbly and light. Given some time in the glass, even this is remedied and the beer is quite nice overall. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 16, 2006 Opened with a loud "phissst" and the foam started coming out of the top. Might be a fairly old sample as there are floaters and this does not a much of a citrus hop prescence. Decent but not memorable. Has more of an earthy quality that I do not care for in IPAs. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jun 14, 2006 12-oz. bottle from tjthresh. Pours a somewhat hazy copper with a small off-white head that slowly diminishes to a patchy film. Aroma is sweet citrus (orange) with a slight hint of tartness, kind of kicks up the saliva glands in anticipation, sweet maple malt (cookie), a hint of yeast (dough) at the end and some floral notes. Medium bitterness and acidity, some buring of the tongue, mild malt flavors, kind of boring and bland after the promising aroma, finish is slightly nutty and citrus hops. Light to medium bodied, fizzy and spicy palate. sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 1, 2006 Bottle. Pours a color that is cider-like. Big white head. Looks like it’s just as carbonated as some of Great Divide’s beer. Hmm. Aroma is citrus/floral. Taste is pretty floral, but it lacks any hop kick. It’s a bit too carbonated for me too. Not bad, but I won’t buy it again. hophead75 (1964), Boonton, New Jersey, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 29, 2006 bottle, dark orange, copper...pours clear with a medium head. aroma: c-hops, citrusy, earthyness, taste is citrus and bitter up front with sweet malt showing in the middle, with a mild bitter finish. tjthresh (1779), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 20, 2006 12 ounce bottle poured into a standard American pint glass. Clear copper with a moderate white head that fizzed away to a whisping. The aroma is fabulous. Robust PNW hops, strong bready, caramel malts, and some fruity yeast esters all playing a near perfect harmony. I recognize this flavor. It reminds me of FFF Thulza Doom, which tells me that there are a ton of Fuggles in here. Walks a fine line between sweet and dry. Finishes with a pleasant bitter bite. Medium body with an enjoyable level of carbonation makes this beer a delight to drink. I normally find English style IPAs rather on the blah side. This one if far from blah. Welcome to KC, Arcadia IPA. I hope to have you around for a long time. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 17, 2006 Hazy pumpkin colored...a bit more on the copper side, I guess, with medium off-white head. The aroma is pleasantly hopcitric, with a firm malt base, and some slight florals. The flavor is very hoppy, very citric, never really delving into Fruitopia land. Still, the citrus evolves from tangeriny to grapefruity, and the semi-dryness as it warms is a testament to its heavy dry-hopping. Medium bodied, this one is worthy of a re-buy next week.
