THe body is nicely malty with the impression of semi-sweet candy. Roasted/fruity hops (apple) come in after the initial sweetness. Finishes nicely bitter and long. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 25, 2002 A very unintersting beer. Mettallic malts. This lacks the bitterness I expect in an ESB. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 20, 2002 Fairly fresh earth aroma, pretty sweetly malty for an ESB. Has some quality aspects. bluemeow76 (693), Lewis Center, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 11, 2002 Dark copper color, thin head, minimal lacing. A bit thinner than I like an ESB to feel. Slight sweet malt flavorings. Very average for the style. slinkymello (137), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Dec 11, 2002 Eh, not that exciting really... similar to red hook, which isn’t really a surprise. Some malty sweetness, thin, a dry finish that is not sweet at all really... marginal Dogbrick (2906), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 10, 2002 Part of and Arcadia sampler: Copper color with an thin orange/beige head and minimal lace. Toasty aroma of malt and caramel. Flavor was malty and smooth, if a little weak. The finish was not as bitter as I was hoping. Gunshy (479), Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 28, 2002 This beer was a dark copper color and also didn’t have much of a head when presented, but it was white and bubbly(only the stout they poured had a decent head but it was nitro). The aroma was of hops, malt and some citrus present. The flavor was of hops, malt and slightly citrus. The finish was bitter. Now with most ESBs, they tend to be a bit more sweet in the finish and less bitter. I don’t mind it, but I don’t know if that represents the style as well.
