Commercial Description:
Our Smoked Porter is a robust London style porter with a deep chocolate/ruby color and the subtle accent of hardwood smoked malt. This distinctive beer is brewed using no less than seven different varieties of premium European malted barley, resulting in a complex and full bodied beer characterized by hints of chocolate, coffee, caramel and beechwood smoke. The big malty finish to this beer is balanced by a solid hop bitterness and the refined English aroma and flavor of premium Goldings finishing hops.

Pours deep dark brown to a black, with light white head. I agree with previous rater, almost a hickory campfire roasted smell. Complex taste of roasted hops, bitter sweet coffee and malt. Very good beer.

Bottled. Poured deep, murky brown with a short creamy cap of deeper beige head. The aroma picked up deeply-roasted, almost burnt dark chocolate and coffee grounds, paired with a mild and complimentary campfire smoke character.. dusty, charred barley came through as well. The flavor began with lightly sour oak and dark fruity notes, with burnt dark chocolate and coffee not far behind.. nicely roasty with coffee and some dry herbal bitterness.. a bit tacky at the very back, but that didn’t detract much. Medium-bodied and well-balanced on the palate.. I very much enjoyed the smoked malt presence. Very good porter!

Had this @ The Winking Lizard on Bethel while watching the Arizona Oregon game with my boys Spencer & Scott. Nose of chickory coffee, sawdust, wheat, berries, maple syrup & molasses. Pours black with garnet highlights. The moderately lasting creamy beige head leaves a nice thin sheet of lace. The flavor is espresso roast with high acidity contrasting with alcoholic warmth and sweetness in the middle. The long fruity finish continues the uber robust character way past the swallow. The medium to full body is lively and dry. There is a chalky feel to the finish. Very very nice brew.

@ Brazen Head on cask-pours an off white head and black color. Aroma is dark malt-coffee/chocolate. Taste is dark malt-coffee/licorice/chocolate, dark fruit, some hops bite. Good porter. Occasional.

Bottle Black pour with huge tan head. Very light aroma, mainly a bit of smoked malt. Flavor is a bit more complex, containing roasted malts, toffee, and caramel. Kinda off aftertaste I don’t care for. Overall, pretty good porter.

12-oz. Thanks, FranknsnBeans! I think that’s who sent me this. Right up my sweet-toothed alley as porters go. Black. Thick, moussy tan head. Scattered light strings of lace. Big chocolate and sweet licorice nose. I swear there’s a hint of cassis or some other dark tree fruit there. Also nice cola notes. Medium body, tingling carb, and big sweet dark notes hitting right from the attack through the mid-palate: chocolate, caramel, some roast, bits of maybe fruit or licorice. Clean, almost neutral finish. Lovely sessionable stuff.

Bottle. Pours coffee with very little head. Aroma is toasty, and, oddly, rum and coke. Coffee-ish taste, with a ton of smoke. Not my style, but good.

Draught at Rick’s Sports Bar. Mild chocolate, coffee and roasted-toasted grain. Light soy-wine tang. Mild hoppyness but mainly a malty sweet aroma. Dark black-brown, hard to tell if it’s clear. Medium bodied with medium-light carbonation. Starts fairly sweet, with a soy-wine tang, chocolate, mild toasted grain and brown sugar, light molasses. Sweet throughout, with mild tangy finish, accompanied with light smoky bitterness and some hoppyness. After is mild with chocolate and fruity hops.
