Commercial Description:
Our Smoked Porter is a robust London style porter with a deep chocolate/ruby color and the subtle accent of hardwood smoked malt. This distinctive beer is brewed using no less than seven different varieties of premium European malted barley, resulting in a complex and full bodied beer characterized by hints of chocolate, coffee, caramel and beechwood smoke. The big malty finish to this beer is balanced by a solid hop bitterness and the refined English aroma and flavor of premium Goldings finishing hops.

Thanks to ogglethorpe for the trade. Black, with a foamy beige head. Pretty much what one would consider typical porter smells and flavors, all melded nicely, except a hint of smoke to give it some character. Really tasty and well made.

on tap - mcmenamin’a mt. airy looks like a pint of black motor oil - though less viscious. no head at all. rich roasted aromas, though not a lot of nose. flavor was dry, crisp and roasty - big and intense malt flavors. finished dry and sharp. very well balanced. one of the best porters i’ve had in a long time.

From a 12 oz. bottle with a notched bottling date along the right of label, sampled slightly chilled in a pint glass. Poured a dark porter brown with a frothy, bubbly topped, creamy tan head, good retention, settled into a thin sudsy lacing. Light hints of smoke in the aroma, followed by roasted malts, cocoa, sweet toffee, traces of coffee and a soft berry fruitiness. Good moderate carbonation and a malty crisp, dry, a little slick, silky smooth medium-light bodied mouthfeel. A pleasant tasting porter, roasted grains, cocoa, light coffee, a touch of charred wood, the wood really comes out in the aftertaste, a light, softly sweet berry fruitiness, the hops provide a tamed earthy bitterness towards the end, the alcohol is barely noticeable, just a low grade warmth at the end, and a dry roasted, with some sweetness, malty finish. Another good English style beer from Arcadia, easy drinkability, very refreshing.

Poured with a great tan head into a snifter. Head slowly diminished. Smelled of chocolate and some roasty qualities as well as some caramel. Taste was much the same with some grapey tones, coffee, finishing with a nice smokiness. Good porter, was really good once it was warmed up a little.

OK, Chirchill, smoking a big cigar! 12 oz brown bottle from the Beer Store in Moon. Pop the lid and it smells like a campfire that was put out with water, damp and musty. The aroma clears to a piercing spicy-ness once poured. The taste of this is like an imperial stout or foreign stout, can’t be a porter. The head is nearly the color of chocolate mousse. Terrible terrible unexpected bitterness like I was eating the cold coals of the campfire. The back of my throat is not happy and my uvula is expressing feelings of despair! Impy stout lovers will rate this high. The alky content is readily apparent. Please, somebody give me a Yuengling black & tan to warsh this down with! Terrible lasting impression on the finish. Will not buy again. JW Dundee’s porter and Saranac Caramel porter is a little better than this.

(Rating #1009)

Pours dark and opaque with a small, but sturdy, tan head that leaves some lacing. Aroma of dark fruits, chocolate, roasty malts, and smoke. Medium bodied. Taste is chocolate, roast, smoke, and grape soda sweetness. A nice porter and the best of Arcadia’s lineup.
