The aroma is mostly mild cocoa with just a few hints of coffee and smoke. Wow for such a subtle the aroma the flavor is immensely assertive. Some dark fruit and chocolate hit my tongue first but then quickly overtaken by smoke, coffee, dark cherries, an oatmeal stout like creaminess, and strong, astringent bitterness in the finish. The body is creamy and full with soft carbonation. smcolw (366), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 31, 2009 Awesome four-finger beige head. Very slow to recede. Lumpy lace. The liquor color is dark, dark brown (nearly black). No light shines through.
Relatively mild aroma of dark chocolate and toffee. Not sweet.
Wow, lots of different flavors. The obvious ones of mocha, dark chocolate, light hop and cocoa are present. There are also some unexpected ones: banana bread, dark cherry, and cream. The finish is delicious hop and cocoa. The body coats the palate, yet it is not thick.
This is an exceptional porter. The flavor is so complex and the combination of elements so rich that it is hard to envision a better example of this style. Wow. corby112 (766), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Pours a dark chestnut brown color with deep amber edges and a one finger beige foam head that quickly dissolves into a lasting ring. Minimal lacing in streaks and patches is left behind.
Roasted malt aroma with some hazelnut, caramel, coffee, chocolate and licorice.
Flavor is very similar to the aroma with a nice roasted malt body with hints of oatmeal and a tone of chocolate and caramel maltiness. Very smooth medium bodied beer that has a lot of silky maltiness that makes it very drinkable. There is some subtle licorice buried in there and a slightly dry hop finish. joergen (8627), Frederiksberg, Denmark

Malty nose with notes of chocolate, strong black coffee, liquorice and some citrus and pine needles. Malty, roasted taste with dark chocolate, cocoa, liquorice, espresso and just a touch of smoke. Lingering cocoa/coffee bitterness. More than medium body, some sweetness. Very well balanced with lots of taste. Brilliant porter. danielcurtis81 (909), San Diego, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 16, 2009 Served from a 12 oz bottle picked up an our trip through M!ch!g@n. Appearance is deep chocolate brown with a faint light brown to tan head. The aromas are immense with dark chocolate, caramel, lighter wood smoke, and coffee. The flavors are reminiscent of a lightly smoked cola. As the beer warms further more coffee flavors come forward with caramel and chocolate that was the base of the cola. Mouth is carbonated like a soda. Sparky27 (1608), Phoenix, Arizona, USA

The nose is dark fruit, roasted malt, cocoa and light coffee. The taste is burnt malt, ashy cocoa, light sour milk and deep roast coffee. Medium semi-creamy mouthfeel. Really good porter. Thanks again Duane! tgncc (840), Bellmore, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 25, 2009 Amazing porter. The aroma is chocolate, roasted coffee, slight hint of floral hops. The apperance is mostly dark brown, tinge of red when held to light, tan head. Very attractive. The flavor is even more amazing than the aroma, sweet and bitter chocolate, roasted coffee, cream, and a slight floral hop taste. As the beer finishes, the floral hops dominate the palate, for a nice clean finish. If anything, this beer is a little hoppy for this style, but it works. The mouthfeel is medium thick, and creamy. Very enjoyable. Great porter.
