| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 26, 2007 Black pour, fairly large head with good lacing and retention. Aroma is very roasty with chocolate and coffee. Medium bodied. Somehow it manages to have a huge roasty profile with the smoother chocolate flavor I expect when I see "London Porter." Well done. rocbyter (925), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 25, 2007 Light malt aroma. Lighter balck color, if there is such a thing. Good tan head but quickly disapates. Moderate malt start finishing with a coffee taste. No offensive taste from the 7.2%. Slightly light palate for a porter. bmurray (20), Hatfield, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 24, 2007 12oz bottle. Poured into a pint glass - very dark brown with a small light brown head. Aroma hit me almost instantly. I can smell the alcohol right away. The initial scent and the first sip are two very different things. Alcohol is well hidden until the calm, warming aftertaste. The consistancy is wonderfully smooth and creamy. The flavors are primarily of milk chocolate and coffee. The scent of a very strong flavored porter are decieving. The flavors are subtle, maybe even a little shallow. Still a good brew with a very unique mouthfeel and calm toasty flavors. islay (478), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 18, 2007 Updated: Mar 23, 200712 oz. bottle, notched as "B1." The sweet, roasted dark malt aroma is extremely chocolatey. The hops are not noticeable in the smell, which is fairly simplistic. Pours a near black with a strong amber/red hue and a moderate amount of than, short-lasting tan head. Tasty rich chocolate and roasted coffee flavor. A bit too sweet. Bitterness from the coffee taste but not from the hops, which I suspect the brewer used sparingly. Raisin and plum notes. Surprisingly weak aftertaste. Full-bodied, thick, smooth, oily, and syrupy in the palate. Low in carbonation. Very interesting and unique texture and mouthfeel, and I’m not sure how I feel about it, but I commend Arcadia for producing something different. Arcadia London Porter is a solid, rich beer with a remarkable texture. It is memorable but imperfect. It’s almost overwhelming for a non-"big beer" (though at 7.2% abv, it arguably is a big beer). If this exact beer were labelled "imperial stout" instead of "porter," I would not have blinked an eye upon drinking it. Note that this is the first beer that I have rated after deciding that I was being a little generous in my ratings. In the past, I think I might have given this beer a 3.8 or 3.9. It’s definitely worth trying and a good value. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 8, 2007 It pours black with tan/brown head. An aroma of roasted malt and slight alc. It begins with a really enjoyable roastiness with a slight vanilla bean quality. It has a good quality coffee taste. I don’t know if the last guy got a bad bottle or if I got a different batch than him, because I really enjoyed this beer. I am really excited about drinking the rest of the Arcadia beers that I brought back from MI.
