Flavor is robust, round, molasses and dark chocolate, slight bitterness and earthiness. Very drinkable, slightly thin which fits the style. A superb porter. cewldre (268), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

I smell a bit of a roasted malt in this one, with some coffee notes. There seems to be something sweet hiding behind the roasted smell, but I cannot place it. Taste is very smooth. Nothing hits me right as the beer hits my tongue, but I swish it around a bit a notice a slight roastiness to it, with a touch of coffee. The sweetness seems to be some sort of dark fruit, but I am still unsure what I am tasting. xav33 (313), Midland, MI, Michigan, USA

12 oz bottle
Cryptic encoding A3, delected 11/06
Medium pour in an English pint.
Poured black, with mahogony highlights, with a huuuuuuuge light brown somewhat lasting frothy head with good lacing.
Smelt of moderate molasses, smokiness, dark chocolate and coffee.
Taste was upfront moderate bittersweet, more on the sweetness side, mild coffee, fruity esters, almost raisiny or sheery like, and molasses followed by a harsh smokiness accompanied by a moderate spicy earthy feel, sweet caramelized sugar,, on a long sweet and spicy raisins, cloves and licorice finish. Mouthfeel was medium bodied, creamy, somewhat lively carbonation, and moderate astringency and slight alcohol.
Overall, the carbonation just blew out of the bottle, begging to be drank. The smell was enticing although a bit light. The flavor perfect, bold, complex, balanced and mellow enough on the palate. Has legs for a few years of cellaring too. A good winter warmer, and certainly would make Old Winnie proud. antzman (313), Clarksville, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 4, 2006 Bottle, aged 1 year. Pours a dark black with an thick tan head that clings well to the glass. The aroma is strong in coffee, caramel, and a touch of smoke. The flavor on this was great. The coffee comes through strongly on this aged beer, much more so than when I tried one of these fresh last year. A very even mouthfeel. This might be the best beer that Arcadia makes, IMHO. porterhouse (1154), Alna, Maine, USA

Rich and tasty...Dark cola brown body with three fingers of creamy tan head. Aroma of dark sweet chocolate and coffee. Mouthfeel very smooth, lightly oily. Rich bittersweet chocolate and coffee flavor with a note of cherry. Reminds me of TD Old Leghumper, just not quite as good by a hair. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA

Smell is plenty of chocolate and coffee, with a little bit of toffee and caramel. Taste is sweet, rich, and perhaps a little too sweet. Reminds me alot of an english porter which is not really my style. I prefer the much more bold american style porters, but this one is drinkable and certainly something I might not mind having a few more bottles of, but I wouldnt go out of my way.
