Thiis one, however, is first rate. Very complex roasted malt flavors...caramel/toffee/coffee/chocolate/and smoke. Subtle flavor nuances abound...at one point the smoke seems to charge forward in prominance, only to recede and become merely a hint. Some floral notes evident in the finishing bitterness that tends to linger. nolankowal (854), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 10, 2006 Pours a syrupy black with a nice light tan head. Sour, soapy, somewhat smokey aroma. The flavor is bitter chocolate, smoke , and soap. Thick over the tounge with a very dry bitterness on the finish. I enjoyed most of the parts that make up this beer, perhaps it was a little bit skunked? I’ll have to try this again sometime to know for certain and rerate is that ends up being the case. I got a 12-pack variety pack of Arcadia. This may be the best even though I am partial to IPA’s. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 6, 2006 Pours cola with a tan head, nice lacing. Aroma has big roasted notes with lots of caramel, molases and chocolate. The flavor is smoke, chocolate, molases, and caramel, very rich. The mouthfeel is smooth, thick and creamy. This is absolutely the best porter I have ever had. Indy (87), Hopkins, Minnesota, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Nov 27, 2005 Tastes like the little brother of an Imperial Porter, but at over 7%, it’s no runt. Aromas and flaveors of chocolate, caramel, and coffee on the malt side, with a nice hop-bitter finish. One of the best porters I’ve had in a long time. MilkmanDan (1940), Eagan, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 27, 2005 Dark milky black. Nose chocolate, plenty of smokiness, some molasses. Not a particularly thick porter, not watery, but very quaffable. Decent smoke, some coffee bitterness, bit of molasses. Rather fruity in the end. UnsofistaCat (222), Garden City, Michigan, USA

I thought this was very well done. In fact, it was one of the best porters I’ver had. Nice roasted flavor and the perfect amount of smokeyness. Nicely hopped as well.
