A very nice deep roasty bitterness emanates immediately from the pint glass. As it warms, additional notes of toffee, milk chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and light smoke come to the forefront. The flavor was well balanced with more ashy hops up front, and a soft sweet caramel malt to round it out. Medium bodied, light carbonation, dry, bitter, roasted finish. Just another great beer coming out of Michigan....

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 3, 2005 This bottled brew poured a medium sized head of dark brown colored frothy fine to large sized bubbles that left behind a softly carbonated dark brown colored body that was opaque except around the edges which had a red hue and a very nice good lacing. Very nice dark malt Porter aroma with roasted malt and chocolate notes. The mouth feel was initially tingly with a strong tingly malty finish and fairly thick. The flavor contained notes of dark malts, mild hops and a mild malty bite with roasted malty and mild chocolate notes. JPDIPSO (4908), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 28, 2005 Near black color with a moderate larger bubbled, tan head. Lots of hops aromas at the first pour, but they diminish quickly and malt backbone comes out. Dark caramel, malted milk, cocoa, light peat and a touch of roasted walnuts. LIght and smooth across the palate. Flavors are simple, but with a purpose. Blackberries and black malt acidity. Mild grains and german chocolate. A very good brew. Rich malty aroma with brown sugar and chocolate predominating. Full bodied. Sweet and malty tasting, lots of chocolate. I didn’t pick up any smoke in this one. Pretty good.
