| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 21, 2009 12oz. bottle with thanks to Gregis! Pours a lighter brown with a foamy tan head, moderate retention, minimal lacing. Aroma is roasty malts, some smoke, with light chocolate and coffee notes. Flavor brings the smoke more to the forefront yet is still somewhat subtle, with additional roasted malts, and lesser chocolate and coffee. A nice, easy drinking porter with some enjoyable smokiness. Poured a very dark brown with a medium-small brownish head. Nose contains smoke, tobacco, earthiness, roasted malts, espresso, and dark chocolate. Flavor favors espresso and dark chocolate, with smokey tones and a fairly bitter hop finish. Mouthfeel is moderately thick, and quite smooth. Overall, an excellent porter for the winter months. As an aside, I love the bottle design with Churchill on it. checkmatei1 (630), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 19, 2008 Bottled. Pours black with a medium brown head. Aroma is well smoked with some beef jerky. The smoke is so strong that it masks all other aromas. Flavor is sweet chocolate that fades into a beefy smokiness. A hint of coffee. Really good malt body. The chocolate and smoke character combined is great. tmoreau (597), Lombard, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 6, 2008 Bottle served at Lunar Brewing. Black/brown hue with a medium, frothy, tan head with good lace. Aroma is of caramel with the sweetness of malt and molasses. Flavor consists of roast coffee, wood, smoke, and an underlying, medium dryness, combined with some malty sweetness. Better as it warms. Not overly smoky as others I have tried.
