Left lots of lacing. Tastes of roated malt, milk chocolate, coffee and burnt malt. The malt was robust, the chocolate sweet, the coffee bitter and the burnt malt was softly smoky.
Body was medium, texture was sticky, carbonation was very soft, a dry very slightly bitter finish. This is a very good Porter!!! I will definitely buy again. The coffee bitterness was bit too much, but the other flavors were excellent and it has a excellent finish. I will definitely buy again! Another fantastic brew by Arcadia! Deep black pour with crimson edges. Slight caramel head. Huge smokey and roasty malt aroma. Some chocolate in the flavor, with lotsof roastiness, some smoke and big wallop of hop bitterness. Delectable! Thanksto TAR. Indy (87), Hopkins, Minnesota, USA

Aromas and flaveors of chocolate, caramel, and coffee on the malt side, with a nice hop-bitter finish. One of the best porters I’ve had in a long time. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA

Man, i have been wanting to try this top-rated Porter for a couple years. Big thanks to hellbilly for sending me this one. She pours a deep deep brown, almost black with a medium sized beige head. Nose is chocolate, toasted grains and some fruity esters. Wow.........the taste is incredible for a porter. Not a favorite style of mine, but damn it would be if more of them were like this. Ok where to start....Up front there is some caramel, then some roastiness...a wonderful coffee, chocolate, hazelnut, vanilla burst of flavors, some pine, then an excellent coffee finish that lingers for just the right amount of time in the aftertaste. The body is just right. Not to dry and not too sweet, there is a perfect balance of both. Same with the carbonation. Most porters are over-carbonated to my palette, but not this one, it is spot-on. Damn this is a near perfect beer, and that is saying a lot since i do not normally go for porters! xav33 (313), Midland, MI, Michigan, USA

12 oz bottle
Cryptic encoding A3, delected 11/06
Medium pour in an English pint.
Poured black, with mahogony highlights, with a huuuuuuuge light brown somewhat lasting frothy head with good lacing.
Smelt of moderate molasses, smokiness, dark chocolate and coffee.
Taste was upfront moderate bittersweet, more on the sweetness side, mild coffee, fruity esters, almost raisiny or sheery like, and molasses followed by a harsh smokiness accompanied by a moderate spicy earthy feel, sweet caramelized sugar,, on a long sweet and spicy raisins, cloves and licorice finish. Mouthfeel was medium bodied, creamy, somewhat lively carbonation, and moderate astringency and slight alcohol.
Overall, the carbonation just blew out of the bottle, begging to be drank. The smell was enticing although a bit light. The flavor perfect, bold, complex, balanced and mellow enough on the palate. Has legs for a few years of cellaring too. A good winter warmer, and certainly would make Old Winnie proud. dukefan (173), Dallas, Texas, USA

Take a great, great Porter, and add an acceptable level of smokiness, and this is a classically flavored beer. TAR (2095), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA

Brakspearesque aroma full of big roasted malt character alongside a hint of charred malt, wood, perfume, light raisin, plum, coffee bean, and phenolic trace. Full bodied palate begins spritzy, but somehow turns creamy, and gently massages the palate. Flavors begin very fruity, showing some sour raisin and plum. Then comes the long, complex finish with bittersweet flavors of cocoa and baker’s chocolate. A trace of leafy hop exerts itself to make this one of the most complex and tastiest porters on the market. Neck and neck with Brakspear and Fuller"s.
