17thfloor (1402), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 27, 2009 On draft at The Map Room. Pours a dark brown with a frothy light tan head. Aroma is creamy roast with light fruit accents. Flavor follows, roasty, coffee and cream, light fruit, finishes dry and a bit astringent. Creamy body, medium carbonation, but overall a bit thin feeling. Pawola22 (676), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Sep 13, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a clear, dark ruby-brown body with a thin, tan head that dissipates quickly and leaves a light lacing. Aroma is medium sweet caramels. raisin, chocolate, nuts, and a light tart berry. No real roast or smoke. Flavor is an earthy, peaty, medium sweet caramel with a dry bitterness, charred toffee, vegetal chocolate, slightly tart plum, and some nuts. Finishes dry with a slight smoke, light bitterness and some plummy caramels. Medium bodied, clean, and smooth. Overall, its not bad in the least bit and its nicely balanced and tasty, but I’m looking for a little more roast/smoke and thick caramel-chocolate sweetness. Not a lot of alcohol taste in the finish either which I like in my scotch ale. deyholla (506), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Aug 14, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark red, almost brown with a tan head. Aroma is very malty with caramel and toffee notes and dark fruit under tones. Flavor is malty and quite one note. surffisher (194), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Jun 14, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours cloudy dark brown with a nice lasting light tan head. Aroma includes malty cola and light figgy notes. Flavor is peaty, nutty and rather hoppy for a scotch ale, with a particularly dry finish. Medium-light bodied and relatively smooth with moderate carbonation and some warming in the finish. Not a great example of a scotch ale, but pretty decent nonetheless. Beerdedone (1873), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 14, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, a touch of smoke and a hint of earthiness. Flavor was smooth with caramel malts, light molasses, peat/smoke and some toffee with a medium body and has a dry finish. Eructoblaster (1477), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jun 8, 2009 Bottle - Mondial de la Bière, Montréal. Dark brown body with a lasting beige foamy head. Nice malty/hoppy aroma with fruity, brown sugar and caramel hints. Taste is well balanced and ends with a decent bittersweet, warming finish. Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 6, 2009 Poured a good sized deep tan head and the beer had a ruby brown colour. Good retention and better than average lacing that really stuck to my glass. Aroma was interesting with its slight smoky overtone, mix of heavy malts, and lots of dark fruit - most notable was cherry and then plum....also had a earthy aroma. Pretty stiff overall. Tastes of dark sweet fruits (cherries), dank wood, caramel, roasted malts and probally a touch of chocolate. Mouthfeel was fairly smooth, but I did notice the extra alcohol as a burn. Medium bodied and a slight bitterness and an aftertaste that doesn’t go away to fast. Not bad, a bit too harsh and I don’t think I want more than 2 in one sitting. bitbucket (2026), Kirkland, Washington, USA May 29, 2009 Pours clear dark brown with a beige head. Lightly sour aroma. Medium body. Sort of earthy, sweaty taste. Seems rather unusual for a Scotch Ale. Maybe more like an Old Ale?
