Commercial Description:
Step into the Scottish Highlands with this authentic Strong Scotch Ale. A lovely and deep garnet color is joined by the aroma of plums and toffee in this unique and special ale. Brewed with Maris Otter malted barley from Crisp Maltings, Ltd. in England, the rich and full-bodied feel of this beer brings out flavors of caramel and roasted chestnuts, which is balanced with a clean and crisp alcohol finish, and just the right amount of lingering hop bitterness. A real treat!

On tap at the Happy Gnome. Deep chocolate brown, with a mostly woody aroma like vanilla oak. Surprisingly rich and vinous in flavor with black currant, port, honey, and chocolate cherries. Very smooth and thick. Finishes with a slight, unwelcome alcohol burn that seems like a sorry way to round this out. Soft strength. Well done.

Dark brownish crimson, thin tan head. Soft nose of plum, cherry, smoke, and touches of chocolate and brown sugar. Flavor was similar, a hint of alcohol heat, with a light bitterness rounding this off nicely. Medium bodied, light carbonation, dry, malty finish. Tasty, but nothing to set it apart...

12oz bottle. Poured a dark brown with a large sized off white head. Aromas of peat, light smoke, caramel, coffee. and earth. Tastes of toffee, light smoke, chocolate, and some coffee. Medium alcohol finish.

Dark mahogany pour under a thin tan head. Very sweet and deeply roasted malty aroma with hints of espresso and smoke. Malty sweetness dominates the flavors and rarely gives much room for the supporting cast or bittersweet chocolate, cherries, vanilla and oak. Mouthfeel a bit thin and finish very much in need of a hoppy backstop.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc & tupalev at our Hotel in Michigan -- my bottle. Pours a murky dark reddish-brown with an average size lasting creamy tan head. Sweet sugary malt aroma with some smoke, dark fruit and whiskey-ish alcohol. Flavour of sweet malt, faint smoke and alcohol with some light hops in the finish. Medium bodied. Pretty good but not great.

Bottle shared with GregClow, Blankboy, Jerc, and Hogtown Harry after MBG 06. Dusty malt, some sweetness in aroma. Very dark brown, very little head. Very boozy, sweet malt taste. Actually less booze as it warms for a change! Simple. Ok.

Bottle shared with blankboy, HogTownHarry, jerc and tupalev at the hotel after the MBG Summer Festival - blankboy’s bottle. Murky ruby-brown with a moderate off-white head. Big, sweet aroma of rich malt and smoky whisky. Average body. Quite flavourful - very malty, with some dark sugar notes, and a fair amount of booziness as it warms. Not bad.

12 ounce bottle purchased at Manchester Wine and Liquors. Aroma is very interesting. Smells a bit sour, acidic, lactic. I think I detect some Brett as well. Not what I’m looking for in a Scotch ale...Mildly trasnparent dark mahogany color with a small, quickly dissipating light tan head. Sweet, sticky, sour, some funkiness present as well. Chocolate notes with diacetyl as well. The Maris Otter is overbearing. This is kind of muddled.
