| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 23, 2005 Head is minimal and nose abounds with roast scent and faint smoke. The maltiness is clear and prevelant but it never overwhelms the flavor and hops finish out with smoothness. The mouthfeel and finish are much the same as the aroma giving a nice symmetry to the ale. This is certainly one of the better US Scotch Ales. JK (2958), Richfield, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Oct 12, 2005 Aromas of dried fruit and smoke. Black, with an initially think head that fades to a thin layer of foam that remains on top of the beer. Lots of malt in the flavor combined with brown sugar. I can taste the nuts because the description says to expect them, but they are light. This is a full bodied beer, fairly thick, with a light alcohol burn. The alcohol is not found in the flavor. Their best beer? Possibly. footbalm (1218), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 5, 2005 I’m 90% sure this uses sugar to attain a higher alcohol level -- it just doesn’t taste like it relies on natural maltiness. Still, Arcadia’s version is an ok beer that still exhibits plenty of caramel maltiness and even a touch of hops. Very dark chestnut color with minimal head but rich body. Recommended, but this is "a world apart" from anything actually produced in Bonny Scotland, as Brits from any of the provinces tend to avoid adding sugar (which is one of the reasons most of their beers are 4.5% or lower but taste great!) But this one would specifically qualify as a nice Winter warmer, for it has a certain cold-weather blankety softness in its sweetness and a potent stout finish -- recommended in the end. ... or should I say the Final Analysis ... maybe not, I’m gay-neutral! Just give it a try, you might like it (not GAY, this beer!) Sammy (4013), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Sep 24, 2005 Nice black colour, with a bit of head. But did not deliver but a faint taste of licorice and molasses. Malt. Recently bought. Some numbing carbonation. Medium mouthfeel. More of an Inoffensive brown ale Braudog (3767), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 23, 2005 Poured a big muddy dark brown with a big airy head. Aroma is mellow, lightly caramel-based. This is a clean drink, with a moderately full bodied flavor of caramel, nut and pine. OK. chilehead (186), Laguna Niguel, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 7, 2005 Pours dark with a thick foamy head. Metallic notes on the nose, along with a touch of condensed milk and coffee. Moderately sweet mouth with some apples and spice. After the head subsides, carbonation is light. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 6, 2005 Very dark brown body with a steady stream of small carbonation maintaining a thin tan head. Potting soil, fruit cake, and orange zest in the aroma. The aroma hints at a big flavor and it doesn’t dissapoint! Tangy pear, caramel, peppery alcohol finishing with a dry chocolate/tobacco and leafy hop combo. The mouthfeel could be a tad heavier to compliment the malts. I’m very impress with this beer.
