| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 8, 2009 A deep reddish brown ale with a thin light moka head and granular floaties. Nice vinous caramel aroma, with light juniper notes, and warming alcohol. In mouth, a sweet caramel malt with light molasses, peaty notes, a bit of licorice. Rich and smooth, a good example of the style. Tasted with Probstk, Jan 11 2009. kseecs16 (887), Naperville, Illinois, USA

App.: Deep copper, rim of tan, big chunks of yeast.
Aroma: Definite funk, peat smoke, a little caramel, a little tangy fruit, kinda tight.
Palate: Medium-full body, moderate effervescence.
Flav.: Caramel/toffee, some meaty smoke, a touch metallic, a little vinous, fairly fruity; quite sweet with some lingering caramel and peat smoke.
Restrained smoke, a bit like an Abbey Dubbel to me. mjg74 (1998), La Mesa, California, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 1, 2009 12 oz bottle-deep ruby red color w/almost no head. Roasted malt aroma. Rich full flavor of roasted malt, caramel, toffee & roasted nuts. Very smooth & easy to drink. Alcohol was very well hidden-had no idea it was this high until I went to rate it. Classic example of this style-long matly mouthfeel. I really enjoyed this one & would love to try it fresh on tap!
