Taste is pungent smoke with dark chocolately malts and some bitter hops. Very nice scotch ale, if you can stand the smokiness holdenn (1444), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 15, 2009 12 oz bottle pours a dark brown with almost no head. Malty nose some charred notes. Caramel, roasted malts, the hops are fading and the malts are annoyingly fruity. Finishes with the fruity malts becoming dry. Not to enjoyable. gbdub (73), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 2, 2009 Pours cola brown with minimal head. Sweet, malty, toffee aroma with some hop scents. Flavor is molasses/toffee sweet, roast malt, ending dry, crisp, and a little hoppy. Reasonably well balanced. Medium mouthfeel. eboats (897), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 19, 2008 Bottled. Pours dark brown with a light brown head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, and bread. Flavor is a sweet malt with roasted bread notes. Has a crisp finish that leaves a bitter aftertaste that slowly fades to sweetness. CaptainCougar (5527), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 27, 2008 Pours a transparent dark amber mahogany with a thin, spotty-lacing
light tan head. Aroma of lightly sweet dark caramel with some light
fruity esters and a hint of earthy peat. Body starts semi-dry and
earthy bitter with some faint toasty notes and a touch of peat before
a dry finish. Could use some more dark caramely sweetness and smoky
character, but still a decent Scotch ale. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA

A scotch ale, maybe, but a good one not even close. Drinkablility is not good. KAggie97 (2477), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 24, 2008 Bottle. Pours a nice, deep shoe polish brown with hefty head of off-white, similar to a Guinness. Aroma is sweet candy, with hints of brown sugar. Aroma takes a total 180, with peat, smoked chocolate, and nut coming to the forefront. Nice mouthfeel. I can’t place it, but there’s something that is keeping this beer from being fantastic.
