"deep garnet color...caramel and roasted chestnuts" well balanced and enjoyable scotch ale. yobdoog (1509), Woodridge NY, New York, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 31, 2007 12oz Bottle: Pours dark brown w/ a small creamy light brown head, which leaves no lacing behind as it falls away to a mere ring around the glass. Aroma is fairly weak, very mild malts. I’m trying, but there isn’t much going on, very mild smokiness, but damn...I’m not going to sit here for an hour trying to pick the aroma apart. Sooo...flavor. Nice creamy mouthfeel. Caramel & dark fruits steal the show here w/ a slight alcohol kick. Has a slight bitterness. After the aroma I was thinking this one would suck, but it’s actually not bad. I’m enjoying this way more as it warms... lampeno420 (321), Zeeland, Michigan, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 28, 2007 Deep garnet alright or darker, w/ cocoa head, sweet aroma with some fruity spiciness to it. Sweet taste with moderate to mild bittering, and something like cinnamon and nutmeg or other such spices lingering in the back (not that those are used, but the flavor makes me think of them, which is preferable to me).
Not my favorite kind of beer, but rather well made and very much what I felt like drinking at the moment. BeerVirgin72 (814), Pataskala, Ohio, USA

At first ’whiff’ I thought ...whiskey, but then the sweetness came through. This IS a full bodied beer and the alcohol is warming. A good beer for a cold winter night. thmbs up. | 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 15, 2007 Updated: Dec 19, 2007Can someone PLEASE tell me what all the fuss is about? I really tried to like this beer. Heck, I tried to like ALL of Arcadia’s stuff, but I just can’t do it in good conscience. Where’s the smoke?? Where’s the peat?? The commercial description says plums, toffee, caramel and roasted chestnuts, but all I could taste was (unsmoked) malt. Talk about unremarkable, while I was drinking this beer I thought to myself, "Hey, I should be drinking beer," followed by, "Oh wait, I guess I am."
