Commercial Description:
In honor of our adventurous friends at Sky Dive Inc. in Hastings, Michigan, we crafted a truly adventurous brew in Sky High Rye. A West Coast-style Pale Ale with rye malt, Sky High Rye boasts a massive floral aroma of resinous hops. The hops contribute flavor notes of lemons, peaches, and pine needles, combined with the sweet, malty flavors of toffee and bread. Rye adds a pleasant peppery, spicy note like a fresh slice of pumpernickel bread. Very well-rounded and very drinkable, Sky High Rye will surely inspire adventure in all who taste it.

On tap at Hopcat. Hoppy beer, lighter in color than I would expect. Not much of a rye edge.

Bomber pours golden amber with a thin white head. Aroma is piney hop, and malt. Flavor is well balanced between the piney hop and the malty sweetness. Neither takes the bull by the horns so to speak. Fairly middle of the road. I must say not much of a rye character.

Bomber from the Binny’s in Willowbrook, IL: This poured a clear golden amber body with a hefty off-white head and provided plenty of lace. The aroma was peppery and spicey with floral and pine notes, all overlaying a light toffee/caramel sweetness. That pretty well describes the flavor, except that the spiciness translated into a steady bitterness throughout the drinking. Dry finish. A dandy brew, created in honor of Sky Dive Inc. in Hastings, Michigan, whose members are undoubtedly enjoying this beer... after the day’s jumping is done.

Tap. Poured a clear gold with a white head that laced well. Notes of hop and rye with a nice underlying fruity aroma with blueberry, peach and lemon present. The flavor disappointed after the complex aroma as it was more hop based with a slight sweet undertone and a slight spice from the rye, but still a good beer.

Bottle from Pauly’s in Lowell. Pours a light amber color with a soapy white head. Smells predominantly of peppercorn and pine. Tastes of each with added notes of toffee and mild peach. Not bad, but the rye really didn’t seem to play a large role.

Pours a nice pale amber with thick off-white head. Aroma strong of citrus hops, slight floral, pine, grass, and malt which I cannot distinguish as rye in aroma, but becomes evident in flavor. Flavor matches well and has a nice hop bite that I really enjoy. It is a little thin otherwise, but very drinkable and enjoyable.

Hazy, orange-gold with good, creamy off-white head / Floral nose of dry hops, weed, and rye / Medium body, good malt and hop balance, with good finish / Restrained yet appealing flavors of dry hops, orange, grapefruit, flowers, caramel, and spicy rye / Very good.

Pours hazy deep gold with 1-finger white head. Nose is orange marmalade, hopcitrus. Tastes hoppy, citric, with some black peppery and floral spicy notes as it warms. I enjoyed this one a great deal.
