Commercial Description:
Starboard Stout is a unique Irish Oat Malt Stout. Deep black in color, with garnet undertones, it has a robust yet well-balanced chocolatey roasted malt character and a creamy mouthfeel. A subtle and complex hop flavor and aroma is provided by Willamette and Cascade.

12oz bottle from The Party Source. Black pour with a huge tan head. Malty aroma that is equally sweet and roasty with some chocolate. Roasty chocolate flavor up front followed by sweet malt and a roasty coffee finish. Nothing spectacular, but I am surprised that the score is so low.

Poured out a healthy deep tan head on top an almost totally black beer. Decent retention, but it lacked in lacing. Aroma was also lacking with it’s overall weak smell of roasted malts, coffee and hint of chocolate. Also carmelly and earthy with a touch of bitterness. Almost forgot the cherries. Taste couldv’e been better but was not bad - just doesn’t live up to alot of the other US stouts floating around. It seems thin. Similar to the aroma, the roasted malts and coffee dominate with a dusty flavour and an overabundance of bitter hops, but it’s too thin and a bit too sweet for my liking. Mouthfeel was thin and overcarbonated, but otherwise decent witha long bitter aftertaste. Meh.

12 oz bottle from Canal’s Hainesport. Pours a dark brown body with an oversized light mocha colored foamy head indicative of a possible infection. Aroma of dusty chocolate powder and sweet poorly artificially flavored cheap coffee. Thin bodied with stinging carbonation, hopefully a mild infection and not the brewers intention. I can’t imagine any stout brewed with oats to be this intentionally thin or the carbonation this forceful. Flavor of roasted malts, sweet coffee and the remainder of the flavors are whisked off my tongue by the overpowering carbonation. Once again Arcadia does not let me down, with their ability to infect a beer that is.....

This stout has a malty aroma. There was little head on the beer. The beginning is malty with a roasted barley bitterness at the end. This is a well built stout though the finish leaves something missing for this reviewer.

12 oz bottle. Pours a deep, almost black, brown color with a 1/2" tan head. No lace. Aroma has a sweet quality to it with nuts and fresh baked oatmeal bread. Palate is smooth, but thin. Flavor is light coffee and chocolate. A little hop background.

12 oz bottle. Pours coffe brown with a decent tan head. Smells of coffee and faint vanilla. Tastes of wood, coffee, malt, and black cherry. However, its watery and thin bodied. Aftertaste is weak. Pretty good overall, but there are better ones out there.

Bottle. Pours a darker brownish color with a small tan head. Aroma is weak. Roasted malts and coffee are faint. Flavor is weak also. Coffee, chocolate, and malts. Very watery. Ok beer though.
