Arkell's Best Bitter Beer, as it was originally known, was first brewed in 1910 and has been affectionately known as BBB or 3B by customers ever since. (One Swindon landlord will tell you that 'BBB' stands for "Big Boy's Beer"). Today, 3B is renowned by Britain's beer lovers as a superb, amber brew with a very distinctive taste and a sweet scent of malt beneath the hops. Pale malt makes up 88% of the dry ingredients along with 10% crystal malt and 2% sugar. According to the 'Real Ale Drinker's Almanac', 3B has "delicate, beautifully balanced malt and hop with lingering dry finish and hint of nut".

A dark, amber brown beer with a weak white head. The nose is slightly sweet, with toffee and caramel, and also it has a hint of malt. The taste is again, malty, slightly nutty with the toffee and caramel elements coming through in the taste. (Bottle).

Bottle 330ml. Amber colour with aslim white head. Aroma has malt and that pasteurised smell. Flavour has nuts, malts, caramel and a hoppy bitterness. Not bad considering.

GBBF 2005: Amber appearance. Slightly hazy. Flavour is mild and sweet. Finish is bitter. Ordinary beer.

Canned. Amber with an off-white head. Aromas are sweet toffee malts with lots of hazel nut character. Flavours are even nuttier, you want to chew it. Dry on the finish. In summary - its nuttier than squirrel shit.

Canned. This is a beer with something of a reputation for being a decent brew. Unfortunately it doesn't behave well in the can. It smells rancid and old. It tastes rancid and old. There is certainly a nutty quality to it, like a Brown Ale or Irish Red, but the canning process kills off all elements of quality.
