Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular.
Kingsdown Ale is the strongest of our regular beers but is a brother to 3B as it comes from the same mash. It retains a strong character of its own, however, with its rich colour, ripe fruit 'nose' and that traditional Arkell's hopiness. You can taste the malt too, along with a bitter-sweet finish and fruit notes. 'Kingsdown', which is named after the area of Upper Stratton where the brewery is situated, was originally brewed as a special beer to commemorate Swindon Town Football Club's League Cup triumph in 1969 and went into regular production in 1976.

Cask at The Warfield, Warfield, Berkshire. Reddish amber with a thin cream head; caramel aroma; smooth, with sour fruit to start and then sweet caramel flavours; slight bitterness and a butterscotch finish.

Cask at The White Hart in Stow-on-the-Wold. Dark red/brown color with some white head. Flavor is more malty than hoppy, suggesting Bombardier in a way. Good drink. Note from 10/11/2004.

Handpulled cask at JDW Stanmore. Lovely looking pint in the pinicle of condition, slowly clearing to an atractive ruby colour with off white creamy head. Very malty and luscious with subtle minimal hopping. Not my type of beer but still very much enjoyed.

Cask at GBBF 2007. An amber beer with no head. The aroma is sweet with notes of phenol and brown sugar. The flavor is sweet malty with light notes of phenol and medium notes of brown sugar hitting a bit later, leading to a dry bitter and phenolic finish.

Clearish copper pour topped by a lasting off-white ring. Nicely rounded toasted malts with backed bread, sunflower and sesame seeds, complexifying cereal maltiness. Not complicated, but well done. Its soft flowery hops clearly limit themselves to a support role. Medium bodied and gently carbonated.

Cask (handpump) @ GBBF 2007, London. Clear medium amber color with a small, fizzy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toffee, light to moderate hoppy, thinner (but okay). Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration and a nice dry finish. Body is medium, texture is syrupy, carbonation is flat.

Cask@GBBF2007. Amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is toffee, slight whiskybarrel, much sweet fruits and grassy hops. Flavour is the same, but the whiskybarrel is really mellow and mild.

Copper with a small off-white head. Toffee and raisin aromas and some grassy hops.. Sweet and fruity with a bitter finish.
