Hops were immediately apparent in the aroma. I could get some sense of maltiness at the beginning but that soon became lost in the overwhelming hop bitterness. Is it good? Not to me. terrybail (334), London, Ontario, Canada

It poured a dark reddish colour with a medium big creamy white head. The aroma is very hoppy with notes of coffee and some citrus. The flavour is bitter and hoppy, but also has notes of coffee. It has a long, lingering aftertaste. dionysus (98), Arizona, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 10, 2009 On tap @ Deluxe. Pours a beautiful red mahogany with a thick beige head. Aroma smells of a lot of dark berries, bread crust, and fresh hops. Taste is very prominent with earthy hops, caramel, and some citrus. Mouthfeel is very nice and overall finishes with a crisp bitterness. Great beer! daleharshman (186), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 9, 2009 Had many times, but this rating based on growler fill from brewery. Pours a very deep and dark red, bordering on brown. Three fingers of frothy beige heady that turns cavernous and leaves nice lacing. Aroma is earthy (kind of musty) with bready malts. Hops are there in the aroma but muted and less citrusy compared to most other Stone beers. However, the hops become more prominent in the flavor, contributing much to the aggressive flavor promised on the label. Some grapefruit. The malt flavor is present as well and overall well-balanced, though the bitterness does win. Alcohol well hidden. Sharp hop bitterness in the finish. Great name, great beer. nater (10), Sabattus, USA
