Nice strong flavor, exactly what I was looking for in a beer that day. Not as intense as I expected. lalu (12), Morin Heights, Quebec, Canada

Why a score of 5?
Because, when i find a beer, that in my opinion, defines a style i give it a perfect score.Aroma is a mix of piney hops and roasted malts. In good light it is a dark ruby red with a nice tan head.
Flavor wise it is a solid mix of bitter hops and varying degrees maltiness as it warms up.Very tasty! Medium palate which makes it very drinkable.(maybe my taste buds are dead because of too much IIPA)As far as i am concerned this is one of the best beers in the world which fits the strong ale description perfectly. If i was stuck in an elevator and had a dozen of these i could stay in there for quite a long time before i would start to panic. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 8, 2009 Updated: Nov 12, 2009This one was too strong for me. The label said I probably wouldn’t like it and they were spot on. Has a strong hop/pine taste. I wasn’t worthy.
UPDATE: 11/11/09 On tap at the saucer. Pours a heavy red hue. Smell is of fat pine dripping with heavy heavy hops. Taste is right upfront hops, (no surprise) that fills the edges of the tongue and quickly envelops the palate. Some roasted malts also hold sway over the taste. Finishes dry and roasted with the bittering hops reminding you of their anger. bsm80 (144), Massapequa, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 8, 2009 I love the bottle: "This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. " Did I ever, this is outstanding, definitely on the hoppy side, graprefruit maybe? Deep amber pour, almost red, great beer, 24oz. bottle, can’t go wrong. mk70 (62), New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 6, 2009 Nose is hops, color brown, creamy fawn head, hops and malt is a good balance. Bitter finish through a medium body. It was a pleasant surprise at the restaurant I visited this evening. RHeastings (392), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 6, 2009 Enjoyed on tap. While the nose of this beer is pungent with hops, the palate is somewhat of a disappointment. While this is a well-crafted ale, the bitterness borders on being overly harsh, and does not have quite enough of a malt balance. Still, this is a classic example of a thoroughly American style.
