Couldnt taste the alcohol, but rather enjoyed the aftertaste which was nutty with a little citris. LisaR (46), Gothenburg, Sweden

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Pours a nice mahogany color with not much of a head. What little head it had dissipates quickly and leaves little lacing.
Strong grapefruity smell dominates.
The initial blast of flavor is of strong grapefruit followed by hops. The malts show up very briefly but are indeed present. The carbonation is a bit strong for my taste but works well with the tangy grapefruit notes.
Overall it is a fine example of the style. I could not have more than one in a sitting that is for sure. It is complex in many ways and is a must have for American Strong Ale lovers. I am more of an Imperial Stout man myself, but can definitely appreciate what this brew has to offer.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 20, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours a dark amber with a thick, frothy tan head. My nose is a bit stopped up, but definitely a hoppy aroma with hints of caramel. Strong, malty taste with a great, bitter hoppy finish. A beer deserving of its name. Taste is malty, sweet and rich. Finish is bitter and leaves you with a bitter tongue. Stone is a kick ass brewer and I have yet to drink a beer by them that I did not enjoy. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Bottle. Dark amber pour with a thick head. Wonderful aroma! Nice sweetness that seems to come from both the malt and hops. Also, notes of caramel, citrus and floral hops. More bitterness in the flavor. Starts out with some caramel malt sweetness, but finishes with a strong hop bitterness. Really nice thick, creamy texture. Outstanding beer! I had high expectations for this beer, and it exceeded them. sebletitje (1899), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Pours amber/copper, beige head.
Aroma is malty/roasted and hoppy.
Taste had quite a good dose of hops and malts. Slightly under the IPA version with more malts. Fruit notes.
Gains in roasted / caramel flavors as it warms up, but keeps a good hoppy finish.
