smith4498 (822), Miami, Florida, USA Aug 25, 2008 Pours clear reddish brown with light tan head. Aromas of caramel, bread, and some grapefruit. Big malt flavor with a hefty dose of piney hops. Full body with average carbonation and a thick mouthfeel. Praetorian (86), Los Angeles, California, USA Aug 25, 2008 Dark Brown in color with a average sized light brown head with great lacing. The aroma is of hops with notes of citrus and pine. The flavor is of strong hops, chocolate malts, nuts, wood, and a hint of molasses and citrus. The texture is creamy. Overall it’s a great beer with a very complex and aggressive flavor. I love it. Those guys at Stone have done it again! BillWyce (90), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 23, 2008 22oz. bomber poured into English pint.
Pours dark amber with a dark tan head
that left a nice amount of lacing. Aroma
is HOPS. A clean, smooth palate with a
heavy taste of hops that lingers on the
tongue with almost a numbing quality.
A malt undertone works its way through
as it warms and as you get used to the
amount of hops. A great, hoppy ale. Dastrn (115), Warsaw, Indiana, USA Aug 23, 2008 Pours a cloudy brown with a slight tan head. Smell was a pleasant mix of hops, malt, lime, and caramel. Tastes a little malty, with hints of citrus and smoky chocolate. The hops are present and pleasant on the tongue. The mouthfeel was smooth for a strong ale, which brought out the hops. The carbonation was minimal. I’m a very satisfied customer, and will return to Dilly Deli in Cincinatti for more! ElGaucho56 (386), USA Aug 22, 2008 Pours a devilish copper-brown with a sizeable tannish head. Nose is not overpowering, just a decent dose of piney, grapefruity hops with a decent pastry malt backbone. More similar piney, leafy hops on the smooth and full palate, certainly well bittered although not a total hop-bomb, with a delicious crisp finish and lingering bitter resins. Really more of an imperial red, it seems to me. But quite nice. DonKi11uminati (43), , Indiana, USA Aug 21, 2008 Updated: Dec 14, 2008Bottle from Andonico’s Market. The bottle design is awesome- be sure to read the label. Aroma is complex and inviting, with malt, hops, and even citrus. Pours beautiful deep red with nice lacing and frothy head. Full syrupy body and medium carbonation fill the palate, followed by an impressively well-balanced and loud symphony of hops, bread, nuts, and a hint of chocolate. Alcohol hides in the background. Finish is long and detailed, with lingering hops and bitter grain. This is an impressive and thoroughly enjoyable beer. It’s complex, well-balanced, and even unpredictable. A personal favorite. chokmah33 (115), Bremerton, Washington, USA Aug 20, 2008 Aromas of floral citrus hops and a clean solvent like burn. Fruits include raspberry, plum, apricot, pineapple and pear. Malt is in the background.
Sweet and woody flavor, with fruits hitting up front. Good hops dose straightens it out in the mid. Mildly bitter bisquit and chocolate finish. Some nuttiness, kind of reminds me of a brown.
Syrupy texture, astringent mouthfeel. Fairly heavy, zesty palate with white wine bite. urnamesucks (92), New York City, New York, USA Aug 20, 2008 The label doesn’t joke around. Probably one of the strongest ales I’ve ever drank. I pounded one and after I stood up I was like no way I’m tipsy already but I was.
