Mutualaid (136), Texas, USA Aug 9, 2008 Pours deep red with a creamy off-white head. First smells are of a resinous and piney hop bouquet followed by a malty base-note. Unsurprisingly hop-forward but the malt is not entirely occulted, making its vanilla presence known as the temperature increases. Finishes with an alpha tingle. Medium body. This really makes me want to try the other "Bastard" varieties out there (Double, Oaked). hughie (3016), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Aug 8, 2008 Bottle at GBBF ’08. Copper colour with a small off white head. Rough vegetal malt aroma. Strong sweet taste with a currious suggestion of natural gas. Some honeyed malt and a mid bitter finish. Rough, tough aggressive beer that doesn’t quite live up to its billing. RevZombie666 (14), Washington, Washington DC, USA Aug 7, 2008 This was my first big boy beer, so it always holds a special place. Don’t drink this beer to have a good time, and don’t expect to throw down 4 of them.
It’s very, very bold. Starts sharp and bites on the way down. I’ve heard Stone will fill growlers cheaper than you’d find this at the store... yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark Aug 7, 2008 From tap at Stone Bistro. Pours clear and golden yet dense amber with a creamy tan head. Aroma is mild breadish malty. Hoppy and mild spiced too. Flavour follows this closely and goes into a spiced and hoppy finish. KimJohansen (6645), Copenhagen V, Denmark Aug 6, 2008 Clear dark reddish amber with large beige head. Sweet aroma with toasted malt, caramel and loads of hops. Sweet flavor with toasted malt, caramel, hops and grapefruit notes. Ends solid bitter. bretupdegraff (172), Fishers, Indiana, USA Aug 2, 2008 poured into wide/deep mug. The brew poured a clear deep red/brown color with a medium light head. Aroma is sweet and bitter smelling. Taste is hoppy with a bitter aftertaste. Lots of great flavor. Nice carbonation. I will certainly try this beer again. abcorbin (4), , Texas, USA does not count Aug 2, 2008 dark amber color with a nice head and nice lacing. complex smell, everything from chocolate to alcohol to roasted malts. amazingly full flavor with lots of hops. the bitterness stuck with me for a while, in a good way. great beer. i cant wait to try other stone beers. Homerlikebeer (19), Petaluma, California, USA Aug 1, 2008 This one tasted great but it was during a day of tubing on the eel river and I was already about 7 beers into the day. But god it was nice and hoppy just the way a beer should be
