Commercial Description:
This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth.

Killer standard. Deep mahogany color, clear. Rich malty, deep, nutty, hoppy, a bit of everything in there. always a favorite

I was expecting much more from this...The double bastard is amazing. A good ale, but I’ve certainly had better. I don’t think there’s much difference between this and the oaked version at least not to my simple taste. RERATE finally getting used to these aggressive american hops reated accordingly

Pours dark mahogany from the bottle with a slight head. Moderately hoppy with a hint of fruitiness.

Bottle pours a very dark reddish amber color with a foamy beige head. Aroma has a sweet malt characteristic but plenty of hoppiness as well. Quite an explosion of flavors with an excellent bitter finish that lingers for a while.

Pours a dark amber with a beige colored head. Aroma is first of cascades and sweet malt (brown sugar and maybe licorice). Taste is extremely bitter at the front and slowly trails off with a dry linger. I was disappointed with this one. It needed more malt presence and hop restraint. It’s a shame because the color is so nice. Not as good as the Stone IPA, which is one of my favorites.

Pours deep red with a creamy off-white head. First smells are of a resinous and piney hop bouquet followed by a malty base-note. Unsurprisingly hop-forward but the malt is not entirely occulted, making its vanilla presence known as the temperature increases. Finishes with an alpha tingle. Medium body. This really makes me want to try the other "Bastard" varieties out there (Double, Oaked).

Bottle at GBBF ’08. Copper colour with a small off white head. Rough vegetal malt aroma. Strong sweet taste with a currious suggestion of natural gas. Some honeyed malt and a mid bitter finish. Rough, tough aggressive beer that doesn’t quite live up to its billing.

This was my first big boy beer, so it always holds a special place. Don’t drink this beer to have a good time, and don’t expect to throw down 4 of them. It’s very, very bold. Starts sharp and bites on the way down. I’ve heard Stone will fill growlers cheaper than you’d find this at the store...
