kassner (429), Wexford, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 1, 2008 Had this beer on tap at magoos. Dark full bodied beer with plenty of sweet malt and hops. Not much head but nice lacing, port wine flavorsand clean bitter finish with just the right level of carbonation fidel (882), Livermore, California, USA Jul 31, 2008 Updated: Dec 12, 2008Dark redish amber, roasted malts, Hops, caramel, citrus, spice, alcohol, little piney, dry. FlssmrBrewAlum (1053), Lisle, Illinois, USA Jul 31, 2008 22 oz. bottle from Party Liquors (Steger, IL). Pours a dark reddish copper hue that is well hazed and has a big billowy tan head that sticks around in a solid mass. Aromas are largely sweet caramel malt and citrusy floral hops. Initial is similiar, a very nice balance between toasty caramel malts and citrusy spicy hops. Almost like an "Imperial Amber Ale". Very interesting and very drinkable. Smooth finish with the hop bitterness making its presence known throughout. Cheers! Valikyte (9), Peoria, Arizona, USA does not count Jul 30, 2008 The Brewer is definitely correct when they state this beer is not for beginners! The beer has excellent aroma, appearance and overall complexity of flavor. The hop flavor remains long after the sip is gone and its bold flavor stands up strong against foods and on its own. Well brewed and a beer for real beer drinkers. lemasney (398), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Jul 29, 2008 RateBeer Rating, Style and Glass: 98, American Strong, Trappist

Overall: Reminds me of the Oaked Bastard, but I preferred this by a mile, and I liked that one a lot. I’d have it again, and I plan to. One of my go to beers from here on out, since I can get it almost anywhere. Well crafted - a very nice treat. 18 out of 20. Zbong (38), Lansing, Michigan, USA Jul 26, 2008 Stone always has quality products and this is their baby. The description gave me a laugh because I bet they are right 95% of the time. This brew is outstanding. Bitter, almost tastes like a strong IPA with the hops. Easy to drink and I’m glad I can get this year round. beer1911 (3), USA does not count Jul 22, 2008 Great beer. Very bitter and grassy with the first sip. The hops stays with you for a few seconds after you swallow. If you look at this beer with a light it has alot of crap flaoting in it (probably pure hops or ground grass) This beer is not for beginers. Whenever i have a little extra beer money i always buy a few of these. Oh and i like to put it in the freezer until just before it starts to slush then drink it (aaaawesome!). DrDavid (957), Johnson, Vermont, USA Jul 22, 2008 Bottle. Deep red color. Big dark head that dissipates rather quickly. Aroma very clean and refreshing. Flavor smacks you upside the head with initial licorice, then widens to inscrutable complexity, braced by prominent alcohol. Finishes very bitter. Overall, very nice. Goes well with cheese and lasagna.
