BlackMail (55), Evergreen, Colorado, USA Jun 17, 2008 Poured dark red with small head. Smooth taste, slightly bitter. Full bodied flavour with an even level. unclemike (834), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Jun 16, 2008 # 200 Great, great beer. Clear, burnt amber pour with a finger-and-a-half worth of creamy head. Aroma was a very hearty mix of malt, hop, and a citrusy sweetness. The taste didn’t disappoint either--medium full to full body, quite malty-sweet with a touch of grapefruit and something else I can’t put my finger on when it first hits the tongue, giving way to a malty-bitter finish. If it has any shortcomings, it may be that the aftertaste lingers a touch too long. Other than that, its a strong, bitter, but very drinkable behemoth of a beer. One of my personal favorites.
joeymacaroni (181), West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 13, 2008 Updated: Jun 16, 2009on tap @ four dogs. pours a dark orange-brown color with a 2-finger tan head. aroma is strong caramel and citrus with spruce and fig. flavor is a powerful blend of malt and hops....a blast of caramel with nut, spruce, lemon, grapefruit. the finish is a beautiful, lingering bitterness of grapefruit rind and quinine. seriously the longest finish of any beer, ever. like, 2 or 3 minutes later i’m still tasting it. seriously awesome beer. not for the weak of heart. ansermadide (496), Kyle, Texas, USA Jun 12, 2008 Updated: Jul 19, 2008(Sample from February 29, 2008 Beer Club Meeting; 22oz bottle from HEB; pint at Alamo Drafthouse on July 19, 2008) Yeah, it’s a little hoppy. Actually, ver hoppy for a darker ale. Nice change. Not sure what all the label-fuss from Stone is, though. Targeted at non-hopheads I suppose. In my opinion the Oaked is much better. Still, a very decent beer. Great in the mouth and on the nose. Hopilicious. Can’t ever go wrong when you pick up an Arrogant Bastard.
Lakes (18), post falls, Idaho, USA Jun 11, 2008 I’m no hophead but this well hopped ale is done right. The malt comes through nicely. Appearance is a clear amber/copper. Aroma is light fruity and inviting. Good stuff. hoplover (166), Corpus Christi, Texas, USA Jun 10, 2008 This reminds me of a Barley Wine. But a hoppy one. Being a hop head, I obviously like it. The flavor and vapor is real nice. Andf the texture is smooth and rich. HonkeyBra (1264), Lemont, Illinois, USA Jun 10, 2008 Updated: Jul 17, 2009Pours a great dark amber with a frothy head and lacing that almost coats the glass. Smell is lots of hops, fruit some sweet malt, some spice. Taste is huge hops, mostly citrus and pine, bready toasty malt. Finish is even more hops, with a full mouthfeel. Very complex, but very drinkable. Yes, this beer is as awesome as advertised.
