| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 7, 2006 Draught. Clear ruby color with bubbly tan head that laced the glass. Pleasant malty caramel nose with a touch of citrusy hops and alcohol. The caramel malt comes out again in the flavor along with some cherry and grape candy. Hop bitterness lasts from start to finish. caesar (3034), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands

Deep chestnut, lasting yellow beige head and good condition. Initial hit of sweet chocolate malt before the blast of spicy resinous hops takes over, big mouthfull of roast barley, sweet caramel malt, pine resin, menthol and mouth tingling hops. Excellent restrained hop bitterness, raw grain and toffee linger into the finish.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 20, 2006 Draft. I’ve had this beer many times in the bottle, on tap around San Diego County at the brewery etc... It was about time I put in a review. The brew pours a deep cloudy amber with a small but thick head. The aroma is smooth and hoppy. The taste seemed smoother then normal, smoother then when I typically have this beer, it is possible that this happened because I had a red ale right before this beer but I can’t be sure. It is a hoppy brew, hops on the forefront with bitterness on the back side, which lingers into the aftertaste. If you don’t try it you’ll never know if your worthy. presario (2987), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 18, 2003 Updated: Jun 9, 2004Second taste: Fresh bottle. Light aroma of alcohol and spice. Dark with hints of light. Foamy porous head. Beautiful balance of strong hops and malt. Deep fruity alcohol notes. Much like a barley wine with all the right notes without the heavy body.
First taste: The story: Tipsy's buddy had a 2-year old (+?) bottle unopened. Tipsy opened it, drank half, corked it and the the next day I sampled. Amazingly still a good starting head, smooth lacing. Dark malt and hop aroma. Dark dirty amber colour. A beer you can chew, much to my liking. Nice balance of hops and alcohol. Slight nutty flavour. Kicks the ass out of any macro ale. Not a guzzler but a quality and complex beer. 8/4/7/3/15 daknole (2975), Plantation, Florida, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 18, 2009 Biggish beige lasting head. Deep dark red body. Strong fruity malty aroma with roasty wild berry notes. Dry-sweet malty raisiny wild berry taste with dusty roasty chocolate notes. Some alcohol, too. Full body. Sharpish mouthfeel, probably bitterness, with some alcohol heat. Dry peppery roasty toffee caramel malts aftertaste with citric notes. Very sweet. Excellent. Rather like a huge top-fermented doppelbock. The alcohol, sweet malts, and the bitterness crash together to some degree. (0.65l bottle at Olympen, Oslo.) SledgeJr (2963), Omaha, Nebraska, USA

Sure, it burns, but it’s a good burn. Can’t wait to try Double Bastard! Strong aroma of tea. I’m not worthy.
