It was the first Stone I had and my gateway beer beyond the standard crafts like Sierra Nevada, Rogue, and so forth (not that there’s anything wrong with them). I’m still a big fan, though it doesn’t *quite* blow me away like it did 5 or 6 years ago. But this combo of blazing hop aggression and malt smoothness isn’t one I can resist. Kudos, Stone, and may you adhere to your arrogance in perpetuity. sunevdj (1784), Copenhagen OE, Denmark

Hint of chocolate malts? Slightly yeasty. leafy hops aroamas. Some alcohol aromas. Medium to full bodied. Fizzy carboantion. Bitter finish. I’ll give this one another try in May when in California. Thanks Mreusch. rudolf (1782), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 7, 2009 Tap @ Brennans. Murky mahogany, tan head. Nose is a big bitter green hop herbalness, lots of malt, brown sugar, cocoa, dark fruits & caramel. Flavor is big caramel, harsh bitterness, borderline burnt sugar. Fruit/grapeyness comes forward in the finish with a slightly harsh hop bitterness and cocoa malt. That harshness grows as the pint continues. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA

Aroma is caramel with toffee and citrus hops. Flavor is initiallly very hoppy, grapefruit. Lots of caramel and toffee malt follow, but never wipes the hops out. Nice sipping beer. 11026 (1779), Alabama, USA

Tannish head that fades moderately quickly to a ring/layer and leaves great lacing. Malty aroma with a bit of raisin and chocolate. Moderately malty for just a brief instance and then a long hop bitterness. Well balanced, just on the bitter side of things without being overtly a hop bomb. Medium bodied, a bit thinnish with mouthfeel. A decent beer but after re-rating this clocks in a bit lower than my original rating. tjthresh (1778), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 9, 2006 22 ounce bottle. Pretty dark Robitussin red beer, with a tan, very sticky lasting head. Huge herbal, spicy hop aroma. Notes of cara malts. The flavor is very herbal. Very aggresive, medicine, grassy, piney flavor. I’m not really happy with this. Astringant finish. Bitter as all hell. Back in the day, this was A1 on my list. The last 2 times Ive had it, it was crap. I wonder what happened.
