It seems either you love this beer or think it’s overrated, I happen to be in the love this beer camp. I know a lot of people bitch that this company is mostly marketing but they do make some of the best bottles out there and fill em up with really good beers. AB looks great, smells great and tastes great. If you haven’t tried some then go get some. Dixen (1465), Flagstaff, Arizona, USA

And it is aggressive... and beutiful too. Lots of malt and then a shitload of hops in the flavor as well as in the aroma. The bastard keeps sitting in your mouth lon time after youve had it... I love this brew... wish i could drink this as my every day beer!
Upd. I have now tried AB stoemped with Spunk (no, not that kind of spunk, small danish licorices), and i must say that it makes this beer even better! TheEpeeist (1460), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Mar 17, 2006 22 oz bottle. Deep purple with splotchy head. A milder version of the Double with hoppy Belgian nose but little more caramel sweet. Starts witth mild malt and seville orange; then builds into waves of hop bitterness. Wow! Similar to the Double but likewise needs another rating when less hammered. yobdoog (1456), Woodridge NY, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 11, 2007 I just love this freakin Bastard. Hell of a beer. Pours dark with a big head, what else would you expect. Strong aroma of dark malts and alcohol with some hopssss. Taste is wonderfully strong and hangs around but not in a bad way. Drinkable. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 11, 2008 Updated: Jun 2, 200822oz bottle. Brown. Bone head. Earthy and piney hop aroma, with some earth maltiness underneath. Malty caramel with lots of bitter, piney hops. A hint of citrus, and a rough bitter finish that sticks. Medium body that is pretty drinkable. I like the maltiness, but there is a weird roughness to the hops in the finish that I’m not too keen on. A nice beer, except for this one hang-up. (3.6)
Rerate: 22oz bottle. Deep red color with a lasting beige head. Earthy caramel, tea, pine, and grapefruit in the aroma. The flavor has some soil, caramel and damp tea leaves, with bitter and piney hops in the finish. The caramel almost overtakes the bitterness of the hops, but falls short in the end. Pretty nice for a big, hoppy red ale, but not as clean and drinkable as when I first had it. Jokes (1453), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 2, 2003 Pours a brilliant deep red/garnet color with little, but persistent, head. The aroma is strong as hell, but just fantastic. Hoppy (pine, citrus, perfume) with sweet malt (peaches, apricot, caramel, vanilla). The flavor is almost equally as good, but not quite. A long, warming finish with plenty of bitterness. A great beer indeed. SuIIy (1453), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 14, 2005 Smells dry and roasty. dark brown/red color with tan head that lasts. Very chocolatey with a strong bitter finish that lingers on the tongue and roof of the mouth. Very roasty aftertaste. GreatLibations (1444), Last Supper, Arizona, USA

Decent head retention that reduces to a few spattered islands and a full ring of lace. Aromas of citrus rind hops and caramel malts. Full nectar w/ creamy residual effers. Thid brew is very hoppy w/ a perfectly balanced use of mildly sweet malts. Big citrus rind overtones. Not a complex brew flavor wise but exmpliphying an American Strong Ale style very well. This is thee American Strong Ale, California style. The finish is long and enduring w/ ample citrus rind bittering and a lasting malt sweetness.
