It’s strong, agressive, and has one of the best dang labels around. beercritic (3), Ohio, USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 18, 2001 Awesome - 7.2% - Hard to believe the beer isn’t stronger than that. Loads of malt & hops. More malt in a single bottle (22 oz) of this than in a 12 pack of Bud. Loads of hops. Loads. An amazing beer, overall. jonsack3399 (8), El Cajon, California, USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Feb 1, 2002 this beer just flat out kicks butt!! I now notice a very sweet thick malt in the taste and palate. 2. My best friend Gina wants to have the top 3rd cut off so that she can use the bottle as a vase for flowers - would that be sacreligious, twisted and bent? or would it be a great new industry to get into? - the Beer Bottle/Flower Vase Industry?
original rating: Extreme beer should be a new category for beers that challenge you. The first time I tried this, I hated it. (maybe because I was on a porter kick, not prepared for this Bastard's hop content?). So, every week at the beer store it kept taunting me from the shelf. Fine. bought 2 more bottles. Damn it - this is one of my faves. I like the initial bite of the hops followed by the full mouthfeel, finally you have to swallow, crisp, warming finish, how can it be so balanced in the end when it tries to hop you to death at the begining. THis is not for beginners - you need a full appreciation of the beer tasting spectrum before you are truly 'worthy' of this beer. I've actually warned a couple of friends away from this - when they are ready, I will buy them one and maybe walk them thru the experience like a shaman......can't say anymore about it. raperea (13), El Paso, Texas, USA

Hint of hops in the smell, but a stronger taste of hops in the drink. Great aftertaste which stays long and a solid alcoholic punch. Knocked me on my ass. HoppedHead (106), seattle, Washington, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 30, 2003 The local grocery store just started carrying this, which is kinda amazing since our college town tends to focus more on selling cases of Busch or Keystone or whatever cheap crap is popular at the moment...Hopefully this is one bastard that will stick around for awhile.
First things first, this is a Big Beer: Big Taste, Big Aroma, Big Hops, Big Deep Blood-Red Color. The scent hits you the moment you crack the bottle open- fruity, hoppy, INSANELY strong. Pours with a nice brown-tan head that quickly diminishes into a little top-fizz. Tastes about how it smells, monstrously hoppy with a strong bite and aftertaste that keeps going for ages. To be honest, I'm worthy enough to like this for the great, ultra-strong beer that it is, but I'm not worthy enough to fully appreciate everything that there is about this beer. Still though, a great beer, and well worth the $3.38 pricetag.
