Cask Stillage from the Festival Bar at the Bhurtpore Inn, Aston 01/07/2009 Roast aroma. Dark coloured and fruity with a little bitterness and dryness in a burnt roast finish.

Cask/handpump, deep mahogany with a medium-sized white head, aroma of hops, a little yeast, a little chocolate and dried fruit. Body was thin and drying, slightly sour, with more choclate notes and a dry-roast finish. Possibly not a good example, sadly.

[cask] Very fruity aroma with bananas, cherries, strawberries. Also molasses and black pepper notes in the nose. Clear, nearly opaque garnet with a bubbly, beige ring. Salty roasted malt flavour with a very pleasant burnt almond finish and moderate bitterness. Light body, low carbonation, dark malt bitter finish.

A Mes rate. Cask handpull at the Bree Louise.
Deep mahogany coloured with a very thin beige film topping. Superb deep dark fruity malt with lashings of creamy caramel and burnt sugar. Not as overly sweet as my description implies. Good chalky bitterness in the finish. A little straight forward but well balanced and loveable.

Cask conditioned at The Royal Oak, Bath, 13/06/09. Black brown with slight tan head. Quite a thinnish stout, there are some roasty notes with chocolate and coffee, but remains fairly light. Reasonable.

Cask-conditioned at the Royal Oak, Bath 13/06/09. Reddish black with a slight tan head. Roasted malts and dark chocolate aroma. Sweetish chocolate and coffee flavours with a roasty finish. A good stout.

(Cask at Wenlock Arms, London, 18 Apr 2009) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with coffee and chocolate. Roasted, malty taste with notes of dark chocolate, coffee and hints of ashes in a dry, roasted finish. Medium body. Very nice and very drinkable stout.

Cask at the Bricklayers Arms, Putney, 17th April 09. Ruby coloured with a line of head. Sweet at first, but then drys somewhat. Dark caramel and some fruitiness but a bit flat and lifeless on the finish. Thinner than I’d like as well. Decent long aftertaste though.
